 address={Actual situation and historical view The Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Warsaw is made up of two sections: St. Andrzej Bobola (Bobolanum) Section, and St. John the Baptist Section. The Faculty in its actual form was created by the Holy See in 1988. The statute of the Faculty as the higher education institution was confirmed by the subsequent documents: first by the Concordat between the Holy See and the Republic of Poland in 1993, and then in 1999 by the Agreement between the Republic of Poland and the Conference of the Polish Bishops. The section St. John the Baptist is a continuation of the Academic Studium of Catholic Theology, created in 1962 and operating twenty years. The Academic Studium of Catholic Theology was founded aft er the suppression of the Faculty of Th eology at the University of Warsaw by the Communist Government in the early fifties and the creation of the Academy of Catholic Th eology in 1954. The Studium evolved gradually and was modified following the reforms of the ecclesiastical education. The roots of Bobolanum go back to the Academy of Połock founded by the Society of Jesus and the Russian Government in 1812. In 1920 Bobolanum moved to Cracow and then after some years, in 1926, to Lublin. In Lublin the single theological studium was raised too the rank of the Faculty of Theology approved in 1932. During the Second World War the buildings of Bobolanum were occupied by the Nazis and after the war the the Communists transformed them into a hospital. Finally, in 1952, the Faculty of Theology had to move to Warsaw where it currently remains. Section St. John the Baptist An important task of the Section is the theological formation of the candidates to priesthood. Th e Section offers the full-time graduate studies in theology for the students of the Metropolitan Seminary of Warsaw, students of four other Seminaries affiliated to the Section and candidates to some religious orders. The section offers non-stationary studies of theology for religious and secular students, provides the opportunity to deepen the theological knowledge, prepares to undertake activities in the parishes, religious movements and prayer groups and has the intention to prepare religion teachers. Together with Bobolanum, the Section runs studies for license and doctorate. A second field of activity of the Section is the scientific research performed by its academic staff . The scientific research has the following goals: to deepen the understanding of the faith, to divulgate the theological knowledge and to undertake the dialogue with other sciences. Th ese goals are reached by publications in scientific revues, symposiums, conferences and meetings. The Section has the intention to form a community of theological scholars in the Archdiocese of Warsaw. Since 1983 the Section is publishing the journal “Warszawskie Studia Teologiczne” and a series of monographs. The specificity of Warsaw is the presence of two faculties of theology: the Faculty of Theology at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University and the Pontifical Faculty of Theology. Since many years there is a cooperation of the Section with that large and important theological center. Section St. Andrzej Boboli (Bobolanum) The Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Warsaw, the Bobolanum Section, offers the graduate studies in theology for full-time and part-time students. It runs also a special program in spirituality. Bobolanum publishes two journals: “Studia Bobolanum” which appears 4 times a year and is dedicated to theological issues, and “Forum Iuridicum” - which appears once a year and is dedicated to law and canon law issues. In addition Bobolanum publishes the books of its professors in the series called “Seria Bobolanum”. Twice a year Boblanum organizes a symposium on a particular theme, for instance: “Children of Abraham: Th e Concept of God in Judaism, Islam and Christianity”. The section also proposes conferences opened to a larger public. Th e theme of the conferences in the academic year 2007/2008 was: “Spirituality of the Great Religions”. The main objectives of Bobolanum are to conduct research in theology and other religious fields as well as student education in those areas. Bobolanum desires to form students’ attitude in a spirit of human values, European heritage, good citizenship, patriotic and Christian values in the spirit of a dialogue with other Churches, religions, contemporary culture and science. While performing its tasks, Bobolanum is guided by the teaching of the Roman-Catholic Church and by the respect for individual and communal rights within the framework of a legal system. At the same time Bobolanum respects academic freedom necessary for effective and fair performance in the area of scientific research and education. Personal and institutional research programmes, symposiums and conferences, publications and information bulletins serve to fulfil teaching and educational objectives. Bobolanum cooperates with various Polish and foreign academic centres. Lectures, classes, seminars, individual internships and other activities carried by teachers and students together serve to fulfi l didactical and educational tasks. Students of the first two years attend an intensive English language course that gives them the language competence at B2 level.},
