Abstract

Mechanical properties of FRP such as strength and stiffness as well as the bonding interface between FRP and concrete will be badly deteriorated when exposed to high temperature. Furthermore, the effect of thickness of insulation with different type of concrete strength has not yet been studied elsewhere in numerical studies. Therefore, this study is to assess the thermal-structural behaviour of insulated FRP strengthened RC beam exposed to elevated temperature using ABAQUS. The proposed numerical model of 200 ×300 mm RC beam subjected to 2 hours standard fire curve (ISO 834) had been validated with the analytical solution. The validated numerical model then is used in parametric study to investigate the behaviour of fire damaged normal strength concrete (40 MPa) and high strength concrete (60 MPa) of RC beam strengthened with CFRP using various fire insulation thickness of 12.5 mm, 25 mm and 40 mm, respectively. The result of steel characteristic strength reduction factor is compared with analytical using 500˚C Isotherm methods. The parametric studies indicated that the fire insulation layer is essential to provide fire protection to the CFRP strengthened RC beams when exposed to elevated temperature. The insulation layer thickness of 25 mm had been found to be the optimum thickness to be used as it is able to meet the criteria of temperature distribution and displacement requirement. In conclusion, the numerical model developed using ABAQUS in this study is to carry out assessment on the thermal-structural behaviour of the insulated CFRP-strengthened RC beams at elevated temperature.

Abstract

The main goal of the studies was to collect information on the impact of the identified risk factors on the amount of costs incurred in the life cycle of buildings. The own studies were focused especially on residential and non-residential buildings. The studies consisted in obtaining expert opinions on the subject of the research involves in the non-random (arbitrary) selection of a sample of respondents from among specialists corresponding to the industry purpose of the studies and the research material. The research used the expert questionnaire method. The studies were divided into three stages. In the first stage, the identification and division of risk factors in the life cycle of buildings was performed. Then, experts assessed 45 selected risk factors that may affect the amount of costs incurred in the life cycle of buildings. In the last step, the research results were developed in the form of a checklist knowledge base, containing information about the potential impact of the identified risk factors in the life cycle of buildings on the amount of the corresponding components of life cycle costs.

Abstract

Some consider the multiculturality of Wrocław to be its obvious and socially legitimised “property”, whereas others view it as controversial and refutable construct. In the paper, we would like to investigate the multiculturality of the Lower Silesia’s capital taking into account its internal differentiation, which is mostly due to the adjudicating authorities – city authorities, its citizens and researchers — as well as observable dynamics. Hence, we propose to inspect the following: firstly, the real differentiation of the social structure of Wrocław’s inhabitants and its transformations related mostly to the influx of Ukrainians, who change the ethnic cityscape; secondly, the politics of municipal authorities regarding the promotion and strengthening of the city’s image as the multicultural, open and tolerant “meeting place”, as well as initiatives inscribed therein and other observable, contradictory events; thirdly, the evaluation of Wrocław’s multiculturality and its selected aspects performed by the city’s inhabitants and revealed in the research on this phenomenon in 2011 and in two editions of Social Diagnosis of Wrocław (2014 and 2017).
