Abstract

The nature and concentration of aerosol particles affect the classroom indoor air quality and have a significant impact on children's and youth's health. The results of investigation of trace elements concentrations, grain size and mineral distribution of aerosol particles and precipitation inside one of the classrooms in Lublin University of Technology have been presented. They were compared with the results of investigation of outdoor aerosols and precipitation. A significant difference between the indoor and outdoor particulate matter was shown. The indoor aerosols contained more Ca and K, while Fe and Pb predominated in outdoor aerosols. The attempt to identify sources of pollution in the classroom indoor air was undertaken on the basis of these results. It was emphasized that quantitative data from studies of aerosol particles in classrooms could play an important role in determination of students' exposure to specific contaminants connected with inhaled aerosols. Utility of such investigations for activities which eliminate sources of hazardous aerosols in schools was also pointed out.

Abstract

In area of zinc and lead exploration the most common elements of landscape are mine spoil-heaps and also dumps and settling tanks connected with zinc and lead metallurgy and ore flotation. They are located in the northern part of Katowice Province, on a line Piekary - Bytom - Bukowno - Olkusz and cover area of about 350 hectares. The individual settling tank in this area is between 15 and 40 hectares and considerably deforming landscape. A fine-grained dolomite is main material of tank sediments. The sediment contains maximally up Io 8.0% of Zn, 1.5% of Pb and Cd in content usually over 100 mg/kg. In spite of high salinity and high Zn, Pb and Cd content the settling tanks can be soil-less reclamated but the first stage of the reclamation should be trying to stop weathering and erosion processes. Abstract

Carotenoids of two species of the Antarctic higher plants from King George Island were analysed. Using thin-layer and column chromatography 16 carotenoids were identified. The total carotenoid content ranged from 4.064 to 17.257 mg/g of dry weight material.

Abstract

Description of program tools simplifying simulation applications building for physical phenomenons described by differential equations in state equations form modeling is presented in the paper. A method for using prepared libraries for squirrel-cage motors including any motor damages modeling had been described. For that purpose, squirrel-cage motor mathematical model in natural coordinates system had been presented. Presented solutions provide also supply sources (inverters) modeling, including their microprocessor implementation and other phenomenons, that assume state equation structure step changes, depending on variable limitations and time value.

Abstract

In this paper some issues of the transition process from air- to oxy-combustion were investigated. Advantages of flexible combustion were described. Flexible combustion tests carried out at four European plants and five plants outside Europe of different scales of process and test parameters were presented. An analysis of the transition time from air to oxy-combustion of different laboratory and pilot scale processes was carried out. The “first-order + dead time” approach was used as a model to describe transition process. Transitional periods between combustion modes and characteristic parameters of the process were determined. The transition time depends not only on the facility’s capacity but also it is impacted by specific operational parameters.

Abstract

In this interview, Professor Estêvão de Rezende Martins, an emeritus professor at the University of Brasilia, discusses his intellectual journey and research interests in the theory, philosophy, and methodology of history and historiography. The conversation delves into the development of historical thinking and consciousness, exploring how human existence is inherently historical and how individuals relate to their experiences through cognitive operations and historical culture. Moreover, the interview explores the evolution of the theory of history in Brazil, emphasising the shift from the speculative reflections of the philosophy of history to the meth-odological rigour of the theory of history or epistemology of history. The role of academic historiography in the face of contemporary challenges, such as the recognition of non‑human or post‑human planetary agencies, is also addressed. Martins discusses the diversification of his-toriography and its autonomy in exploring previously neglected topics, along with the need for historical education to empower individuals to think independently and critically in our border-less, globalised world. Ultimately, the interview sheds light on the ongoing theoretical experi-mentation in the field of history and the potential impact on historiographical practice in the future.
