Abstract

The paper describes studies on the influence of humidity on the electrical resistance of a textile sensor made of carbon fibres. The concept of the sensor refers to externally bonded fibre reinforcement commonly used for strengthening of structures, however the zig-zag arrangement of carbon fibre tow allows for measuring its strain. The sensor tests showed its high sensitivity to the temperature and humidity changes which unfavourably affects the readings and their interpretation. The influence of these factors must be compensated. Due to the size of the sensor, there is not possible electrical compensation by the combining of “dummy” sensors into the half or full Wheatstone bridge circuit. Only mathematical compensation based on known humidity resistance functions is possible. The described research is the first step to develop such relations. The tests were carried out at temperatures of 10°C, 20°C, 30°C and humidity in the range of 30-90%.

Abstract

The article highlights the issues of the quality of the newly developed residential areas in Stockholm, in the times of one of the most development intense times in the history of the city. The city of Stockholm has a population of ca. one million residents today and is one of the fastest growing cities in Europe. The high increase in population numbers, high birth rate and strong economy have been the main factors contributing to the rapid city growth. The urgent need for new houses has been addressed by Stockholm’s politicians with an ambitious housing programme. The housing shortage together with the city´s booming economy and actively applied planning policies have created challenges for the decision makers and for the city planners. Most of Stockholm´s new residential areas are being planned outside the city centre which requires a revised approach to the character of the planned spaces and to their density. However, the issues of the quality of the currently planned and built areas are being raised more and more often. Not only the architectural quality has been discussed, but also the scale, structure typologies, the quality of the functional and spatial programmes and that of public spaces.

A planning model that has been applied in Stockholm for several years is based on a close co-operation between the city´s planning administration bodies and private investors. A critical element of this kind of a planning model is a strong vision for the city´s future development. The city’s planning administration bodies assure an applicable guidance throughout the planning process. Analysis and conclusions presented in the article are based on practice at planning and administration bodies in Stockholm and in the region of Stockholm in the years 2005-2018.

Abstract

The results of drill stem tests made on the autochthonous Miocene deposits of the Upper Badenian - Lower Sarmatian age in the Carpathian Foredeep were analyzed. Reservoir tests were performed in open and cased holes, where inflows of formation water of varying saturation degree and sometimes contaminated with drilling mud filtrate, were observed. A total of 58 intervals, geophysically qualified as gas-bearing, were analyzed. Statistical analysis methods were used for determining the influence of the formation depth on the depth of deposition of the Miocene, and also dependence of initial back-pressure exerted on the reservoir during DST, on the depth of deposition of the reservoir. No correlation was found between water flow rate and initial differential pressure. A satisfactory correlation was obtained between hydrostatic pressure of water cushion in the tubing string and reservoir pressure for selected 22 the Miocene intervals in the Dębica region. In this region the pressure quotient php/pz broadly ranged between 0.05 and 0.57. Another correlation was noted between initial back-pressure and a depth at which pressure was measured and initial back-pressure, and formation water flow rate. The regression equations determined with statistical methods can be used for predicting values of formation pressure, initial value of back-pressure, formation water flow rate and initial differential pressure during DST. On this basis technological parameters of successive reservoir tests can be determined for in the analyzed area of the Carpathian Foredeep, particularly in the Dębica region.

Abstract

This article is a review of Ethan Kleinberg’s Haunting History. For a Deconstructive Approach to the Past (Stanford, 2017). I focus on three issues related to that work. These are: historians’ attitude towards the deconstruction; the idea of ontological realism and its critique; the role of young historians in modern academia. This text is based not only on the book reviewed but also on its different analyses and ways it was used in other research. In the conclusion, I present how Haunting History can be used as an emancipatory tool by scholars who are starting their academic careers now.
