Abstract

Speech recognition system extract the textual data from the speech signal. The research in speech recognition domain is challenging due to the large variabilities involved with the speech signal. Variety of signal processing and machine learning techniques have been explored to achieve better recognition accuracy. Speech is highly non-stationary in nature and therefore analysis is carried out by considering short time-domain window or frame. In the speech recognition task, cepstral (Mel frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC)) features are commonly used and are extracted for short time-frame. The effectiveness of features depend upon duration of the time-window chosen. The present study is aimed at investigation of optimal time-window duration for extraction of cepstral features in the context of speech recognition task. A speaker independent speech recognition system for the Kannada language has been considered for the analysis. In the current work, speech utterances of Kannada news corpus recorded from different speakers have been used to create speech database. The hidden Markov tool kit (HTK) has been used to implement the speech recognition system. The MFCC along with their first and second derivative coefficients are considered as feature vectors. Pronunciation dictionary required for the study has been built manually for mono-phone system. Experiments have been carried out and results have been analyzed for different time-window lengths. The overlapping Hamming window has been considered in this study. The best average word recognition accuracy of 61.58% has been obtained for a window length of 110 msec duration. This recognition accuracy is comparable with the similar work found in literature. The experiments have shown that best word recognition performance can be achieved by tuning the window length to its optimum value.

Abstract

An Internet application was developed to support the design process of the WLAN access network. The whole program was designed as a desktop application using the following languages: HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The main task of the application facilitates the planning process of the WLAN access network, including the location of multiple base stations. There is an example of using the program in the WLAN network planning process. The main purpose of this application as the ability to carry out network planning using multiple base stations and provide radio coverage for the entire area served by Wireless Internet Service Provider, is obtained.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to determine the effect of leaf wetness period and air temperature on development of disease symptoms caused by Puccinia recondita on winter wheat. The experiments were carried out in growth chamber at the Institute of Plant Protection in Poznań. Seedlings of a susceptible winter wheat cultivar Mikon, were artificially inoculated with urediniospores of P. recondita and incubated in temperature of 15 and 20°C. The period of duration of leaf wetness varied from 2 to 14 hours. Disease symptoms on seedlings at 20°C appeared 7 days after inoculation. Reduction of temperature to 15°C resulted in the elongation of latency period to 8 days. The relationship between leaf wetness period and disease symptoms severity was also observed. The gratest number of urediniospores in both tested temperatures were observed on plants exposed to 14 hours of leaf wetness. In temperature of 20°C 4 hours of wetness duration was enough to guarantee infection and the appearance of P. recondita pustules, whereas in 15°C at least 10 hours of wet period was needed to cause disease symptoms development. The experimental results were used to produce two equations describing relation between leaf wetness and symptoms development in tested temperatures.

Abstract

The paper concerns experimental work studying chemical composition, structures and selected mechanical properties of castings produced by rheocasting method SEED. After previous experiments, which showed inclusions in the primary phase α(Al) when observing structures, hypothesis of external nuclei was taken. The main goal of the work was to determine the influence of inoculation by various additions of titanium/boron based inoculant on the structure and properties of AlSi7Mg0,3 alloy. The master alloy AlTi5B1 was added in amounts of 0,05, 0,1, 0,15, 0,2 wt %. Metallographic observation by light and SEM microscopy was used for analysing the structures. Measurements of grain size were realised and evaluated. Brinell hardness measurements were performed. Chemical composition was measured by GDS analysis. Undertaken experiments did not prove the effect of inoculation of combined AlTi5B1 master alloy on castings made of AlSi7Mg0,3 alloy made by rheocasting SEED at given amounts and conditions.

Abstract

An outstanding Polish biochemist, laureate of the Foundation for Polish Science Prize in 2007, member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a head of the Department of Molecular Biomedicine at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, PAS in Poznan

Professor Wlodzimierz Krzyzosiak’s research path led from the structural chemistry of nucleic acids, through molecular genetics and cancer genetics to molecular medicine. In the last years, Professor's scientific activity focused on understanding the role of RNA in the pathogenesis of human neurological diseases caused by the expansion of repetitive sequences. He also developed new methods of experimental therapy for this group of disorders using antisense oligonucleotides and RNA interference technology. He analyzed the factors influencing the microRNA biogenesis and used this knowledge to improve RNA interference technology tools in therapeutic approaches. Overall, Professor Krzyżosiak coauthored more than 130 publications, which have been cited more than 3500 times so far.

Abstract

Born and died in Warsaw. Irena Wojnar started studying the humanities during World War II, at the clandestine University of Warsaw. Between 1946 and 1949 she continued her studies at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Warsaw, in the so-called Seminar of Pedagogy II. In 1949 she was formally employed at the University and remained there until her death. Between 1958 and 1960, as a holder of the Ford Foundation scholarship, she studied at the University of Paris (Sorbonne), where she defended her doctoral dissertation “Situation actuelle de la jeunesse par rapport a l'art”. She did her fellowship and obtained habilitation at the University of Warsaw in 1965. In 1976 she became an associate professor and in 1985 a professor. From 1967 to 2004, prof. Wojnar headed the Laboratory and afterwards the Department of the Theory of Aesthetic Education at the Faculty of Pedagogy of the University of Warsaw. Professor Irena Wojnar was a member of the Committee on Pedagogical Sciences at the Polish Academy of Sciences (1976–2012, since 2016 an honorary member), the Prognosis Committee “Poland 2000 Plus” at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences (1970–2011, since 2011 an honorary member).
