Abstract

Based on the analysis of the LIDAR terrain Digital Elevation Model (DEM), traces of opencast and underground mining of iron ore mining were located and classified. They occur in the zone of ore-bearing deposits outcropping on the north-eastern and north-western bounds of the Holy Cross Mountains. The DEM of an area covered by thirty-six (36) standard sheets of the Detailed Geological Map of Poland on a scale of 1:50,000 was thoroughly explored with remote sensing standards. Four types of ore recovery shafts with accompanying waste heaps were classified. The acquired data on the extent of former mining areas, covered with varying shafts and barren rock heaps could make a basis for distinguishing, according to historical data and in cooperation with archaeologists, the historical development stages of today’s steel industry. According to general knowledge, the iron industry in Europe instigate dates from the Roman times, in the Ist century BC to the IVth century AD, throughout the earlier and the late medieval times, up to the most recent the 1970ties. The usefulness of the LIDAR method has already been amazingly confirmed in archaeological researches worldwide. Many discoveries of ling forgotten, even large entities resulting from human activities in Asia and Central America especially were discovered owed to the LIDAR DEM. Also, traces of human settlements from various historical periods were discovered that way in Poland. The applicability of DEM based on LIDAR data is, in geological studies of surficial geodynamic processes and in geological mapping in Poland, rather contested.

Abstract

Theoretical analysis of the dewatering and consolidation process of the wet paper web with the air through- blowing technique is presented in this study. This kind of process takes place in a new (patented) device called the air press. The results of theoretical considerations are experimentally verified. The experimental research was conducted on a specially designed experimental stand with the use of three kinds of paper used for oil and air filtration. It was proven that the air through-blowing process of the fibrous web dewatering can be considered as unidirectional consolidation with the linear relationship of dehydration and deformation. A new system of devices was suggested for the continuous production of high quality filter papers, with the air press as its basic element.

Abstract

This article may provoke interest in Poland's activity in connection with the potential extraction o f natural wealth from the sea bed. The international concern Interoceanmetal Joint Organization (IOM) was set up in Szczecin in 1987. Poland has been a member from the very beginning of IOM. To this day Poland is involved in conducting exploration of a specific sector. The sector is in the area of Clarion-Clipperton in the Pacific, and it has a surface area of 52,300 km2. Registration as a pioneer investor made research, rather than exploitation, possible (1991). The exploration of the submarine area allocated to Poland became possible in 2000.

Abstract

Artykuł dotyczy osobistego stosunku osób prowadzących badania społeczne nad religią do przedmiotu ich studiów. Podejmuje kwestię autorefleksji w socjologii religii i krytycznie omawia propozycje namysłu nad usytuowaniem badawczym przedstawione przez Neitz oraz Altglas i Wooda. Propozycje te korespondują z postulatami silniejszego osadzania socjologii religii w teorii społecznej i problematyce relacji władzy.
