Abstract

Presence of heavier molecules and toxic brominated compounds in pyrolysis products of printed circuit boards (PCB) make their use difficult. In the present work to overcome this problem PCBs were pyrolyzed in presence of catalysts such as ZSM-5 and Ca(OH)2 to study their effect on pyrolysis products. The comparison of non-catalytic pyrolysis of PCB was done with oil and gas compositions produced by both techniques. Pyrolysis experiments were done at a lab scale set-up. However, the increased concentrations of ZSM-5 were found to increase char and gases were found to be rich in CH4 and O2. The composition of oils was mainly composed of phenols, phenol derivatives and aromatic compounds, which increased with pyrolysis with ZSM-5 and Ca(OH)2. Ca(OH)2 was found effective in removing brominated compounds from oil and no halogens were observed in oil. Char produced during pyrolysis was mesoporous in nature and composed of some fractions of metals and glass fibers.

Abstract

Following compounds were determined in samples from Bransfield Strait and southern part of Drake Passage (area "A"): dissolved free- and combined amino acids, dissolved mono- and polisaccharides and urea. Concentration of urea in most samples ranges from traces to 1.5 μgat Nurea-1 and total urea content in water column from 10 to 150 m lies between 19.23 and 197.4 mgat Nurea . Dissolved free amino acids concentration ranges from 0 to 0.60μg x 1-1 and total free amino acid content are found to be between 20 and 60 mmol. Concentrations of combined amino acids lay below 7 μmol x 1-11 and integrated value for combined amino acids fluctuates between traces and 450 mmol. Monosaccharides concentrations in most samples do not exceed 2.5 μmol x l-1 and their content in water column lies below 180 mmol. Polysaccharides content in water column ranges from 1.8 to 3.94 mol and concentrations vary between 8 and 32 //mol-1 1. Evident differences in the content of dissolved organic compounds between Bransfield Strait and southern part of Drake Passage were found.

Abstract

The paper provides analysis of the influence of temperature on the error of weigh-in-motion (WIM) systems utilizing piezoelectric polymer load sensors. Results of tests of these sensors in a climatic chamber, as well as results of long-term tests at the WIM site, are presented. Different methods for correction of the influence of changes in temperature were assessed for their effectiveness and compared.

Abstract

The architectural and archaeological research conducted in 1977 was aimed at determining the stages of the church’s spatial development, which was to be achieved through analysis of its architecture, cultural accumulations, historical sources etc. During the research, eighteen coins were discovered — three early medieval ones and fifteen late medieval. The finds from St Elisabeth Church can be dated back to the period between the second half of the 13th century and the second half of the 14th century. The condition of some of the coins prevented complete identification. The discovered coins included Czech parvus coins (four), Wrocław city hellers (three) and other small coins which were in circulation at the time in Silesia.

Abstract

On 19 August 2021 died Professor Henryk Olszewski, born 2 January 1932. The Deceased was one of the most renowned specialists in history of law and polish parliamentary tradition, especially during the reign of Wasa dynasty. His knowledge based on analysis of manuscripts and constitutions of Polish Diet of XVII century. Professor Henryk Olszewski during all his life was connected with Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, where he graduated in 1954. All his life reflected the changes in politics: the Stalinist era, real socialism and finally the III Polish Republic. In Poznań, after the “thaw” of 1956 he started as an assistant, wrote his doctoral thesis in 1959, qualified for an associate professor in 1976, received the title of full professor in 1986. His career was connected with state policy in the field of higher education. In 1956 he was appointed to teach the history of political and legal doctrines, and he had to begin anew, although he never left the history of Polish parliament. In the new field of active research, Professor Olszewski became an excellent expert of German political thought, especially of XIX-th and XX-th century. His life was full of different activities and functions. He was the dean of Faculty of Law and Administration (1975–1978), member of Polish Academy of Sciences, and of Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was also an active member of many international bodies, among them the most important was the “International Commission for Teaching of History” and the Commission for history of European parliaments. His publications count more than 700 titles, and he was active in more than 300 cases as a professor conferring a doctoral degree or reviewer in habilitation procedures. For over 40 years, Professor Olszewski was an editor in chief of “Czasopismo Prawno-Historyczne”, one of the best Polish scientific periodicals (Legal-Historical Periodical). His personal feature was his attention to the history of legal and historical science of institutions and scientists, he was even known as “custodian of scientific memory”. His extraordinary knowledge and scientific excellence were recognized by the scientific world – he became doctor honoris causa multi, Professor Henryk Olszewski received the title at Europa-Universität-Viadrina (2001) and at Jagiellonian University (2011). Adam Mickiewicz University renewed his doctor title in 2015.
