Abstract

This paper focuses on Jews as subjects in the struggle for women’s emancipation in Habsburg Galicia from a (post)colonial perspective. The Polish feminist and writer Maria Janion proposed the thesis that Poland should be perceived as a colonizing and colonial country in terms of its eastern neighbours, and also in relation to its Jewish population. She argues that this relationship, after Said’s postcolonial theory, can be also described in gender constructions. Janion’s theoretical construct serves as a prism to examine the relationship between Polish and Jewish women in the associations of women within the women’s movement; the perception of the female Jews from the perspective of Polish feminists; and the Jewish national movement at the beginning of the 20th Century in Austrian Galicia from the women’s historical perspective. Following Janion’s thesis, on the one hand the way Polish feminists acting in Galicia focused Jews in the medial course should be clarified, as should the extent to which growing antisemitism led to changes in the women’s associations. On the other hand, light needs to be shed on the relationship of the Zionists to the Jewish Women’s associations on the basis of discursive inscriptions within the Galician Jewish national press, reflecting the changes in Jewish women’s associations.

Abstract

Dynamic biaxial compression tests and Particle Flow Code numerical simulations of the cement mortar specimens with a single joint were carried out to study the mechanical properties and crack evolution of artificial rock samples with a single joint. The effects of lateral stress 𝜎2, loading rate V , the dip angle β (between the vertical loading direction and the joint) on the biaxial compressive strength 𝜎 b, and the evolution lawof crackwere investigated. Test results showed that; (1) when both the dip angle β and the loading rate V remained unchanged, the biaxial compressive strength 𝜎 b increased with the increase in the lateral stress 𝜎2, while 𝜎2 had no obvious effect on the crack evolution law; (2) when both the dip angle β and the lateral stress 𝜎2 were kept unchanged, the loading rate V had an insignificant effect on the biaxial compressive strength 𝜎 b and the crack evolution law; (3) when both the lateral stress 𝜎2 and the loading rate V were constant, the biaxial compressive strength 𝜎 b decreased first and then increased with the increase in the dip angle β ; however, the dip angle β did not significantly affect the crack evolution law. The conclusions obtained in this paper are presented for the first time.

Abstract

The relevance of the study is explained by the growing popularity of a political Internet, thanks to which all politicians, regardless of age and status, are able to address an audience directly without resorting to intermediaries such as the media. Taking into account the main goal of political communication – the manipulation of public consciousness, it seems especially relevant to find out what persuasive strategies politicians use to manipulate public opinion and convince their audiences of the correctness of their judgments as made opportune by the political Internet. Thus, in the present study, an attempt has been made to answer the question as to whether there are differences in the strategies and tactics of persuasion used in the personal blogs of two generations of politicians. Using the methods of computer linguistics, analyzed were ten personal blogs of politicians of different age. The study found that both young and more experienced politicians with varying degrees of intensity resort to employing all the analyzed strategies and persuasion tactics. The most popular tactics found in the blogs of the younger generation of politicians were call‑for‑action tactics, and in the blogs of their older colleagues – the tactics of incrimination.
