Abstract

The paper presents an iterative identification method dedicated for industrial processes. The method consists of two steps. In the first step, a MISO system is identified with the Modulating Functions Method to obtain sub-models with a common denominator. In the second step, the obtained subsystems are re-identified. This procedure enables to obtain the set of models with different denominators of the transfer functions. The algorithmwas used for on-line identification of a glass conditioning process. Identification window is divided into intervals, in which the models can be updated based on recent process data, with the use of the integral state observer. Results of the performed simulations for the identified models are compared with the historical process data.

Abstract

Leaf scald, caused by the necrotrophic fungus Monographella albescens, is one of the main threats to rice (Oryza sativa L.) around the world. This disease decreases yields in rice by up to 30% because of dead leaf tissue, damaged seeds, and sterile flowers. Currently, there is limited knowledge about the molecular mechanisms involved in rice plant resistance against this pathogen. For this purpose, six commercial cultivars of rice were primarily screened for M. albescens infection and development. Dasht and Salari were found to be the most resistant and susceptible to M. albescens infection, respectively. The plants were kept in a greenhouse at 29 ± 2°C during the day and 26 ± 2°C at night with a relative air humidity of 85 ± 5%. Forty-five days after sowing, the plants with three biological replications were inoculated by transferring a PDA disc (0.3 cm2) containing M. albescens mycelia to the middle third of the 7th, 8th, and 9th completely open leaves. The leaves were collected 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 hai. Leaf samples were also collected from the non-inoculated plants (0 h) to serve as controls. Real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) showed rapid induction and significant accumulation of jasmonic acid (JA) and ethylene (ET) responsive genes such as lipoxygenase (LOX), allene oxide synthase 2 (Aos2), jasmonic acid carboxyl methyltransferase 1 (JMT1) and ACC synthase 1 (ACS1) in the resistant Dasht cultivar after infection with M. albescens. Furthermore, the transcripts of salicylic acid (SA) responsive phenyl alanine ammonia lyase 1 (PAL1) and nonexpressor of pathogenesis-related genes 1 (NPR1) genes were induced in the incompatible interaction. The activities of the defense enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POX) and glutathione reductase (GR) increased strongly in Dasht in response to M. albescens infection. In addition, there was an increase in the H2O2 levels in the leaves of the Dasht cultivar during the infectious period of M. albescens associated with the enhancement of catalase (CAT) activity as well as higher levels of malondialdehyde (MDA). This is the first study on the interaction between rice and M. albescens at the molecular level. It can contribute to understanding how rice responds to pathogen infection, as well as assist with future research plans of molecular breeding regarding the tolerance to leaf scald disease.

Abstract

This paper presents the resolution of the optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) problem and the control of voltages in an electrical energy system by using a hybrid algorithm based on the particle swarmoptimization (PSO) method and interior point method (IPM). The IPM is based on the logarithmic barrier (LB-IPM) technique while respecting the non-linear equality and inequality constraints. The particle swarmoptimization-logarithmic barrier-interior point method (PSO-LB-IPM) is used to adjust the control variables, namely the reactive powers, the generator voltages and the load controllers of the transformers, in order to ensure convergence towards a better solution with the probability of reaching the global optimum. The proposed method was first tested and validated on a two-variable mathematical function using MATLAB as a calculation and execution tool, and then it is applied to the ORPD problem to minimize the total active losses in an electrical energy network. To validate the method a testwas carried out on the IEEE electrical energy network of 57 buses.

Abstract

This paper presents a simulation study of the simultaneous reconstruction of the non-smooth strain distribution of an optical fiber Bragg grating and its temperature, which is based on the reflection spectrum of the reflected beam of the grating. The transition matrix method was used to model the reflection spectrum of the grating, and the nonlinear Nelder- Mead optimization method was used to simultaneously reconstruct the strain distribution along the grating and its temperature. The results of simulations of simultaneous reconstruction of the strain profile and temperature indicate good accord with the strain profiles and temperature set. The reconstruction errors of the strain profiles are less than 1.2 percent and the temperature change errors are less than 0.2 percent, with a noise level of 5 percent.

Abstract

The paper presents the impact of exceeding the railway rails lifespan which usually causes a railway structural failure, thus an accident. The research highlights the rails’s high degradation, especially on the running area, consisting in 60-70% weight loss by advanced wear of the rail, followed by fatigue fracture caused by alternating cyclic stresses that initiates the crack and also by tensile stresses resulting in the crack growth. The chemical composition, structural and mechanical properties were analyzed in order to establish the causes that led to the railway rails rupture.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of feed supplements with alfa-amylase and beta-glucanase (Optipartum C+ 200) on ingestive-related behaviour biomarkers registered with real-time sensors: rumination behaviours and reticulorumen parameters (pH and temperature). Cows (n=20) in the treatment group (TG) were fed with Optipartum C+ 200 (Enzymes feed supplement: Alfa-Amylase 57 Units; Beta-Glucanase 107 Units) from 21 days before calving until 30 days after calving with a feeding rate of 200 g/cow/day. Cows (n=22) in the control group (CG) were fed a feed ration without feed supplement. Measurements started from 6 days before calving and continued until 21 days after calving. The following indicators were registered: with the RumiWatch System: Rumination time; Eating time; Drinking time; Rumination chews; Eating chews; Drinking gulps; Bolus; Chews per minute; Chews per bolus. With the SmaXtec system: the temperature, pH of the contents of the cows’ reticulorumens, and cows’ walking activity.
According to our results, feed supplementation with alfa-amylase and beta-glucanase (Optipartum C+ 200) in the TG group resulted in increases in the following parameters: 9% rumination time and eating time, 19% drinking time, 11% rumination chews, 16% eating chews, 13% number of boluses per rumination, 5% chews per minute and 16% chews per bolus. The rumination time showed a strong, positive relation with rumination chews and bolus indicators in both groups (TG and CG) (p<0.001); while the rumination time in both groups of cows showed an opposite direction and was negatively related to eating time and eating chews (p<0.05).
We found a 1.28 % lower reticulorumen pH and a 0.64 % lower reticulorumen temperature in cows fed with the supplement compared with cows in the control group. Cows in TG were 8.80% more active than those in the CG group. For improvement of ingestive-related behaviour we suggest adding a feed supplement with alfa-amylase and beta-glucanase (Optipartum C+ 200).

Abstract

Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) is the causative agent of infectious enteritis called paratuberculosis that has a high economic impact on the worldwide livestock production. A central important question arises: Can wildlife animals serve as a reservoir for transmission of MAP to domestic ruminants? With this in mind, we devised a study to detect MAP in various Slovakian wildlife species found in the areas where paratuberculosis had been documented in domestic ruminants. The samples of parenchymatous organs (intestines, ileocecal valve and mesenteric lymphatic nodes) from 83 wildlife animals representing 13 species, inclu- ding 7 herbivorous, 5 carnivorous and 1 omnivorous species were collected during a four-year period. The clinical and pathological examinations failed to demonstrate any manifestations of paratuberculosis in any of the wildlife samples. The detection of MAP was done by widely used tests, i.e. cultivation and the PCR analysis. The bacterial cultures revealed the growth of Mycobacterium spp. colonies in 58 (70%) of all of the wild animals, but the PCR testing demonstrated paratuberculosis only in one (7.69%) of the roe deer population.

Abstract

Orientating investigations were carried out in order to test the influence of oil extracts of lycopene (20, 40 and 60 mg/kg feed) and astaxanthin (10, 20 and 30 mg/kg feed) as feed additives on the metabolic parameters (glucose, creatinine, cholesterol) and enzyme activities (alanine aminotransferase, ALT; aspartate transaminase, AST) of laying hens. Eggs from these hens were stored at refrigerator temperatures of 4°C and 12°C for up to 30 days and analyzed for vitamin A, carotenoid and yolk color. 45 laying hens (Hy-Line W36 cross, 23 weeks of age) were divided in three groups of 15 birds each (control, lycopene fed group, astaxanthin fed group). Blood samples were taken from the hens and laid eggs were collected on days 31, 61, and 91 of the study. The eggs were stored for 30 days in refrigerators. Both lycopene and astaxanthin increased the content of glucose in serum (Р<0.05). The content of creatinine and cholesterol, and the activity of ALT, AST and alkaline phosphatase varied dose-dependently. With the exception of cholesterol, metabolite concentrations in the serum of laying hens fed different lycopene and astaxanthin doses did not exceed clinically accepted physiological levels. The carotenoid content and color of the egg yolks from laying hens fed astaxanthin was significantly higher (Р<0.05) compared to lycopene fed birds. Refrigerator storage of the eggs did not affect carotenoid content and egg yolk color compared to freshly laid eggs. Both feed additives showed a favorable effect on the metabolism of laying hens and the enrichment of egg yolks with carotenoids, astaxanthin significantly more (Р<0.05) than lycopene.

Abstract

Obesity, which is generally seen in adults, is a serious health problem. Diseases caused by obesity are among the leading causes of death worldwide. Liraglutide (LG) is an analogue of glucagon-like peptide-1, which slows gastrointestinal motility, resulting in decreased food consumption. Gastric plication (GP) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is the reduction of stomach volume by surgical means. We examined and compared the body mass index (BMI) changes, metabolic changes and changes in gastric histology in obese rats after LG injection with surgical methods such as SG and GP.
In this research, 35 Wistar Albino female rats were used. Rats were divided into 5 groups with 7 rats in each group. Group (G) 1: The control group, fed with a normal calorie diet for 8 weeks. G 2: Sham group, G 3: SG group, G 4: GP group and G 5: LG group, fed with high-calorie feed for 4 weeks. At the end of the 4th week, the study was terminated by making appropriate interventions for the groups.
When the blood glucose (BG) levels measured at the beginning, 4 th week and 8 th week of the experiment were evaluated, it was monitored that the BG level at the 8 th week was the lowest in the LG group (p<0.05). It was observed that the preop Ghrelin and Leptin levels of the LG group were lower than those of the SG and GP groups (p<0.05). As a consequenc
As a consequence of our metabolic investigations, we observed that the use of LG is at least as effective as SG.

Abstract

With the advent of massive MIMO and mmWave, Antenna selection is the new frontier in hybrid beamforming employed in 5G base stations. Tele-operators are reworking on the components while upgrading to 5G where the antenna is a last-mile device. The burden on the physical layer not only demands smart and adaptive antennas but also an intelligent antenna selection mechanism to reduce power consumption and improve system capacity while degrading the hardware cost and complexity. This work focuses on reducing the power consumption and finding the optimal number of RF chains for a given millimeter wave massive MIMO system. At first, we investigate the power scaling method for both perfect Channel State Information (CSI) and imperfect CSI where the power is reduced by / and /√ respectively. We further propose to reduce the power consumption by emphasizing on the subdued resolution of Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) with quantization awareness. The proposed algorithm selects the optimal number of antenna elements based on the resolution of ADCs without compromising on the quality of reception. The performance of the proposed algorithm shows significant improvement when compared with conventional and random antenna selection methods.

Abstract

The building information modeling (BIM) method is one of the newest methods that has been widely used in many parts of the building business, including energy management. The aim of this research is to analyze the most holy theotokos in order to find the best set of modifications that result in an optimal energy cost. The analysis was conducted through the use of building information modeling (BIM) technology and the associated programmers such as Auto Desk Revit 2020 and Auto Desk Insight 360, in order to determine the optimal strategies by which the most applicable alternative construction materials and procedures are considered in order to obtain an environmentally and economically sustainable most holy theotokos. Applying this analyze to the most holy theotokos revealed that many alternatives are capable of making a tangible reduction in the cost of electrical energy consumption and the cost of fuel for generators. Such reductions are noticed when altering in the optimum manner. The alteration of construction materials for walls and roofs also reduces the cost of electrical energy consumption and fuel for generators. The results show that changing the plug load efficiency in the optimal manner reduces the cost of electrical energy consumption by approximately 933913 US dollar ($), and changing the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems (HVAC) reduces the cost of fuel energy consumption by approximately 13522 US Dollar ($). Green building studio (GBS) is a tool that helps in the early stages of a project to find the best ways to save energy.

Abstract

Temperature effects have a great influence on the mechanical behavior of cable-stayed bridges, especially for long-span bridges, which have significant time-varying and spatial effects. In this paper, the temperature characteristics of multi-tower cable-stayed bridge are obtained by data acquisition with wireless acquisition module. The test results show that: the daily temperature-time curves of atmospheric temperature and structural temperature are similar to sinewaves with obvious peaks and troughs; structure temperature and atmospheric temperature have obvious hysteresis; longitudinal displacement, transverse displacement and vertical of mid-span beam are negatively correlated with atmospheric temperature; the temperature distribution of the cable tower is not uniform, and the maximum temperature difference of the section is 23.7°C considering 98% of the upper limit value; the longitudinal, transverse and vertical displacement of cable tower and the cable force is negatively correlated with atmospheric temperature, and the relationship between cable force and atmospheric temperature is a cubic function rather than linear function.

Abstract

The subject of the study was to determine the impact of changes in mechanical properties of high-tin bronzes on the basic components of the sound of a bell. Change in the tin concentration in the range of about 7.5 to 20 parts wt. in a casting alloy significantly affects the mechanical properties of the alloy such as Young’s modulus or hardness. The free vibrations of bells were obtained with the help of the finite element method. In the numerical analyses the mechanical properties of standard alloys were adopted. The obtained natural frequencies of the bell made of a bronze with different tin concentration in copper were compared with the acoustic properties of a real bell casted on the basis of the same ribs. A significant effect of the increase in the alloying share of tin on the obtained results was stated. In addition, the acoustic analysis of aluminum bronze C95500 have been performed. Based on the obtained results, authors stated that this material can replace the commonly used high tin bronze C91300 for the unit production of bells.

Abstract

The study is aimed to quantify the effects of social noise exposure (personal music players (PMP), events with high noise exposure) and the exposure to the other environmental noise sources in the selected sample of Slovak university students. The validated ICBEN methodology was used to assess noise annoyance. The measurement of ambient noise levels was done using hand-held sound level analyzer. There were 526 university students (143 males and 383 females, average age 23±2.2) enrolled into the study so far, 192 in the exposed housing facility to road traffic noise and 326 in the control housing facility in Bratislava. The social noise exposure was quantified and followed according to the authorized methodology of the study Ohrkan. From the total sample 416 (79.4%) students reported the use of PMP in the last week for the average time of 314 minutes. There was a significant difference in PMP use between the exposed (85.34%) and the control group (76.31%) (p = 0.01). Among PMP users 28.1% exceeded the LAV (lower action value for industry = 80 dB). The results showed the importance of road traffic and the social noise as well and the need for prevention and intervention in these vulnerable groups.

Abstract

In this paper voltage stability is analysed based not only on the voltage deviations from the nominal values but also on the number of limit violating buses and severity of voltage limit violations. The expression of the actual state of the system as a numerical index like severity, aids the system operator in taking better security related decisions at control centres both during a period of contingency and also at a highly stressed operating condition. In contrary to conventional N – 1 contingency analysis, Northern Electric Reliability Council (NERC) recommends N – 2 line contingency analysis. The decision of the system operator to overcome the present contingency state of the system must blend harmoniously with the stability of the system. Hence the work presents a novel N – 2 contingency analysis based on the continuous severity function of the system. The study is performed on 4005 possible combinations of N – 2 contingency states for the practical Indian Utility 62 bus system. Static VAr Compensator is used to improve voltage profile during line contingencies. A multi- objective optimization with the objective of minimizing the voltage deviation and also the number of limit violating bus with optimal location and optimal sizing of SVC is achieved by Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm.

Abstract

The paper presents a method for estimation of converter drive parameters. This estimation encompassed three types of drives, i.e. a static Scherbius drive, a driver with a brushless direct current (BLDC) motor and a drive with a voltage inverter. For drive modelling and parameter estimation, the author implemented original program mes written in FORTRAN. As well as these, the paper describes an objective function applied for the estimation. The author also compares gradient and gradientless methods, chich are applied for minimization of the objective function. Finally, the author explains the estimation results for example drives, focusing on the coincidence of theoretical and empirical waveforms. The abovementioned procedure led to the general rule, which facilitates estimation efficiency.

Abstract

This paper considers the feasibility of different technologies for an electromagnetic launcher to assist civil aircraft take-off. This method is investigated to reduce the power required from the engines during initial acceleration. Assisted launch has the potential of reducing the required runway length, reducing noise near airports and improving overall aircraft efficiency through reducing engine thrust requirements. The research compares two possible linear motor topologies which may be efficaciously used for this application. The comparison is made on results from both analytical and finite element analysis (FEA).

Abstract

The results of experimental investigations into foaming process of poly(ε-caprolactone) using supercritical CO2 are presented. The objective of the study was to explore the aspects of fabrication of biodegradable and biocompatible scaffolds that can be applied as a temporary three-dimensional extracellular matrix analog for cells to grow into a new tissue. The influence of foaming process parameters, which have been proven previously to affect significantly scaffold bioactivity, such as pressure (8-18 MPa), temperature (323-373 K) and time of saturation (1-6 h) on microstructure and mechanical properties of produced polymer porous structures is presented. The morphology and mechanical properties of considered materials were analyzed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), x-ray microtomography (μ-CT) and a static compression test. A precise control over porosity and morphology of obtained polymer porous structures by adjusting the foaming process parameters has been proved. The obtained poly(ε-caprolactone) solid foams prepared using scCO2 have demonstrated sufficient mechanical strength to be applied as scaffolds in tissue engineering.

Abstract

This paper presents an original method of designing reversible circuits. This method is destined to most popular gate set with three types of gates CNT (Control, NOT and Toffoli). The presented algorithm based on graphical representation of the reversible function is called s-maps. This algorithm allows to find optimal or quasi-optimal reversible circuits. The paper is organized as follows. Section 1 recalls basic concepts of reversible logic. Especially the cascade of the gates as realization of reversible function is presented. In Section 2 there is introduced a classification of minterms distribution. The s-maps are the representation of the reversible functions where the minterms distribution is presented. The choice of the first gate in the cascade depends on possibility of improving the distribution. Section 3 describes the algorithm, namely how to find the optimal or quasi-optimal solutions of the given function.

Abstract

In this study, cross-section analysis was performed on a novel rotating direct-metal deposition method capable of preliminary surface treatment and damage repair of cylindrical inner walls. The cross-sectional shape, microstructure, and metallurgical composition were analyzed to verify feasibility. No defects such as porosity or cracks were found in the cross section, but asymmetric dilution was observed because of the non-coaxial powder nozzle. Microstructural coarsening was confirmed over a higher dilution area by high-magnification optical microscope images. As the dilution ratio was increased, hard carbides in the dendrite were bulk-diffused into inter-dendrite spaces, and the toughness was lowered by Fe penetration into the deposit. Therefore, the increased laser heat input can be modulated to the typical dilution by decreasing the laser scanning velocity.

Abstract

Time-interleaved analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architecture is crucial to increase the maximum sample rate. However, offset mismatch, gain mismatch, and timing error between time-interleaved channels degrade the performance of time-interleaved ADCs. This paper focuses on the gain mismatch and timing error. Techniques based on Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) for estimating and correcting gain mismatch and timing error in an M-channel ADC are depicted. Numerical simulations are used to verify the proposed estimation and correction algorithm.
