Abstract

The agrarian process includes many industrial phenomena and events. The goal of economics as a science is to precisely detect and describe the relationships between various market mechanisms. These phenomena can be presented as the desire “to describe reality in terms of systems, their components and relationships, both between components of the system and between different systems” (Jankowski 1997). The energy sector is a special field among many areas of the national economy, and the products of this sector have a major impact on the branches of the economy and the mechanisms of action occurring in them. The publication is devoted to the construction of a mathematical model used to support the energy policy of local government units. The aim of the study is to build a mathematical model of energy production, taking the development potential of renewable energy into account, as well as to propose the desired direction of energy policy development in the analyzed periods to the regional authorities and to offer a model for creating an energy policy in other local government units: poviats, communes. Until now, few authors have comprehensively dealt with this issue. To date, no detailed research has been published on issues related to renewable energy development and the use of mathematical methods in the construction of the energy production model in local government units. The undertaken research is a contribution to the development of knowledge about alternative energy sources in the energy margin.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present a brief history of the Greek text of the New Testament. The period of time that has been taken into consideration starts around the beginning of the Christian era and ends at around the time when the printing press was invented by Gutenberg. The discussion is devoted to the different kinds of witnesses to the Greek New Testament, such as the papyri, parchment manuscripts, minuscule manuscripts, and fi nally paper manuscripts. It occurs that the existing manuscripts are mere copies of copies, as the archetype manuscripts were lost at an early date. Nevertheless, by studying the earliest manuscripts, as well as a number of later manuscripts, it is possible to get a rough idea of what the original Greek text looked like.

Abstract

This paper presents the results of the static work analysis of laminated veneer lumber (LVL) beams strengthened with carbon fabric sheets (CFRP). Tested specimens were 45mm wide, 100 mm high, and 1700 mm long. Two types of strengthening arrangements were assumed as follows: 1. One layer of sheet bonded to the bottom face; 2. U-shape half-wrapped reinforcement; both sides wrapped to half of the height of the cross-section. The reinforcement ratios were 0.22% and 0.72%, respectively. In both cases, the FRP reinforcement was bonded along the entire span of the element by means of epoxy resin. The reinforcement of the elements resulted in an increase in the bending strength by 30% and 35%, respectively, as well as an increase in the global modulus of elasticity in bending greater than 20% for both configurations (in comparison to the reference elements).

Abstract

The web-tapered I-columns have the capacity to resist the flexural buckling and lateral torsional buckling at a particular location where as in the rest of the member the capacity is lower. There needs a focusing on the nonprismatic members, to find the buckling capacity and standard procedures are to be framed in Indian Code IS 800:2007. This exploratory research explores simulated finite element models covering a total of 60 web tapered column sections having taper ratios (h2/h1) from 1.0 to 3.0 using FEA software ANSYS17.2. With an elaborate Eigenvalue buckling analysis, this research has come up with newer design equation for calculating the buckling load of web tapered I columns. This novel equation could predict the buckling stress for any taper ratio of web tapered I column of any length.

Abstract

Water quality is an important factor to determine a development of living organisms, including the presence of amphibians. It this article we compared the water quality of both, natural infield reservoirs in areas with intensive cultivation of cereals and the recently created reservoirs in the gravel pits in Central Pomerania, northern Poland. We tested all the physico-chemical properties that may impact species richness and reproductive success of amphibians. We observed that gravel ponds were better oxygenated, with higher pH and conductivity, and were less fertile in nutrients. In Pomerania, the water reservoirs in gravel pits had better breeding conditions than in-field ponds with higher total nitrogen and total phosphorus concentrations. There are many scientific papers identifying a negative role of sand and gravel mines, including a release of heavy metals from sediments, a high non-metalic minerals concentration, a destruction of native species of vegetation and occurrence of alien species. Therefore, we should be careful in assessing the role of newly emerging reservoirs in sand and gravel mines. The purpose of our research is to show that sand/gravel mines can be used to protect nature and that they can have also a positive impact. Few previous studies indicate that they may be a favorable place for creating new breeding sites for amphibians, which may ultimately help to preserve species in the face of environmental pollution and climate change.

Abstract

International maritime law has a decisive impact on the shaping of EU policy. Although statements to the fact that no maritime policy exists in the Community occur in both doctrines and discussions, significant attention is still paid to Community maritime issues. Some examples would be maritime safety, intermodal transport and Community activities regarding the sustainable development of the marine environment and its natural resources. All of these elements are closely linked, and perhaps it will be possible in the future to achieve a degree of transport development which will be at once sustainable and integrated according to EU policy.

Abstract

In the paper the results on self-purification of mine waters contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) have been presented. Samples of waters from the .Zicrnowit" coal mine have been used. Concentrations of PAHs in the deposits and supernatant waters after selected specific periods of time were evaluated. The quantitative and qualitative analyses of 16 selected PAHs (as recommended by the USEPA) were carried out, as well as investigations on the PAH concentration changes versus time in deposits and supernatant waters. Extension of the sedimentation time resulted in increased concentrations of carcinogenic PAHs in deposits. The observed PAHs concentrations in deposits were high and comparable with these found usually in sewage sludge. Outing the whole sedimentation process sorption of compounds which are easily bounded on suspension (with log kow > 7) took place, which led do the decrease of PAH concentration in supernatant waters. 'The accumulation of PAHs in deposits and their desorption lo supernatant waters during the sedimentation process were not signi fi cant.

Abstract

T h e a i m: The aim of the study is to present the initial experience with continuous flow left ventricle assist device (CF-LVAD) in pediatric patients with BSA below 1.5 m2.

M a t e ri a l a n d M e t h o d s: Between 2016 and 2017, CF-LVAD (the Heartware System) have been implanted in three pediatric patients in the Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland. The indications for initiating CF-LVAD were end-stage congestive heart failure due to dilated cardiomyopathy in all children.

R e s u l t s: Implanted patients have had BSA of 1.09, 1.42, 1.2 m2, and 37, 34, 34 kg of body weight and the age 12, 11, 12 years, respectively. The time of support was 550 days in two patients and 127 in another one, and is ongoing. The main complication has been driveline infection.

C o n c l u s i o n: The outcomes from our single-center experience using the HeartWare CF-LVAD have been excellent with a low incidence of complication and no necessity to reoperation in our patients. Children could be successfully and safely discharged home.

Abstract

The Copper-SiC composite was investigated with the help of FEM. The authors modeled and analyzed the effect of relaxation of thermal stresses due to seasoning at room temperature after the manufacturing process together with the effect of thermal stresses induced by reheating the material to a service temperature. Especially, hypothetical fracture at interface was of interest. It was shown that, for a fixed temperature, a single crack emanating at 0° or 45° azimuth would develop only along a portion of fiber perimeter, and a further growth would require stress increase in the fiber surrounding.
