Abstract

The paper presents the results of a study into lexical substitutions found in the Old English gloss to psalms 2-50 in the Eadwine Psalter. The major objectives to determine the possible sources of this manuscript, which clearly go beyond the traditional explanation that originally the gloss was derived from a Vespasian Psalter-type gloss, later revised by the corrector based on a Regius Psalter-type gloss. The analysis shows that the affiliation of the gloss is indeed highly complex for such a resource. Moreover, the paper shows that despite its numerous corrections, the Old English gloss to the Eadwine Psalter is in fact a valuable source of information on the twelfth-century scribal practice of the post-Conquest England.

Abstract

The paper is devoted to development of the evaluation methods tor limiting condition of metal alloys and steels under uniaxial and biaxial proportional and non-proportional low-cycle fatigue. To investigate the fatigue behavior of Type 08X 18H I OT stainless steels and titanium alloys BT9 strain controlled tests under 12 proportional and nonproportional loading ar room temperature were carried out. A strain parameter. namely, a nonproportional strain range. is proposed to obtain a correlative dependence with lifetime. For the majority or the materials this dependence can be derived from uniaxial tests and described by a linear function. It made it possible to propose simple engineering method for lifetime prediction.

Abstract

Presented paper consists of two parts: (1) experiences of spatial policy formulation on EU level and (2) preparation of new EU Territorial Agenda until 2030. In first part were elaborated milestones of previous activities on spatial policy in EU: European Spatial Development Perspective from 1999 and Territorial Agenda approved by member states in Godollo in 2011. Important element of paper was also description of changing background of spatial policy, primarily related to Lisbon Treaty introducing territorial cohesion. In XXI century crucial role was played by three generations of ESPON programme, embracing spatial pattern of European space, but also forecasting future of European territory until 2050. Catalysing role was played by the World Bank and OECD activities. In second part evidence concerning new Territorial Agenda was presented. Issue of spatial patterns of mega-trends implies priorities of new Territorial Agenda. Using territorial potentials and overcoming territorial barriers gives additional impetus to EU development. Problems which should be tackled are: risk of fragmentation, growing interdependencies between places and functional mismatch. For Poland involvement in activities leading to next Territorial Agenda of EU is of key importance.

Abstract

- Najwięcej wypadków śmiertelnych miało miejsce w wyniku wybuchów metanu i wybuchów pyłu węglowego, a znaczną liczbę wywołały tąpnięcia i zawały.

Abstract

The probability density functions were used to forecast the air quality in several monitoring sites located in Worek Żytawski region. Prediction of percentile 99.8 value (the maximum allowable 30-minute pollutant concentration) was made on the basis of the frequency function, which represented the annual distribution of SO2. Analysing the historical SO2 concentration data sets identified the form of distribution. The parameters of the distribution were estimated basing upon the annual average concentration prognosis. Then, the preliminary predicted distribution of S02 was verified every month by taking into account successively upcoming concentrations values recorded during the analysed period. The results proved that the air quality estimation obtained with the presented method of verification at the end of September and the ones typically calculated at the end of the year were similarly accurate.

Abstract

The kinetics of the reaction between CO2 and methyldiethanolamine in aqueous solutions have been studied using the stopped-flow technique at 288, 293, 298 and 303 K. The amine concentration ranged from 250 to 875 mol·m-3. The overall reaction rate constant was found to increase with amine concentration and temperature. The acid base catalysis mechanism was applied to correlate the experimentally determined kinetic data. A good agreement between the second order rate constants for the CO2 reaction with MDEA computed from the stopped-flow data and the values reported in the literature was obtained.

Abstract

The uncertainty, threats and risks are unavoidable aspects of human existence. The response to them is trust, the expectation of beneficial, future actions of others (individuals, institutions, organizations). Risk and trust take unique forms during pandemic. Risk is global, universal, hard to assess and attached to common, everyday actions. Trust, the bridge over the abyss of uncertainty, is directed toward three addressees: the government, medicine (medical science, services and products), and the other members of society. For each category the expectations are different. These theoretical considerations are applied and illustrated by the brief history of the pandemic in Poland.

Abstract

This essay (given at the PENClub Polska) deals with the relationship between constitutional matters and poetry. The essay takes a closer look at the poetry of Adam Zagajewski, Marcin Świetlicki, Julian Tuwim and Adam Bieszek. “There is nothing on us in the Constitution” – Marcin Świetlicki angrily declaims the bitterness of civil rejection in the poem “Under the volcano”. However, the poet is not right. The Constitution sometimes means more than it says directly. If it is silent about something, that does not always amount to rejection, as Świetlicki claims. The two first parts of the essay explain why the poet could have made such a mistake as to his presence in the Constitution. The third part expounds the change that is taking place in Poland: the rejection of the foundations of the Constitution without changing its text.
