Energy security is one of the most frequently analysed phenomena in the energy markets. Great variety of scientifc efforts should have indicated clear definition of the phenomenon. However, those studies highlighted more than 80 different definitions of what energy security really is. Due to the fact, that energy security is analyzed by different scientific disciplines, studies have provided a comperehensive reflection on the phenomenon.

The main objective of this paper is of the theoretical nature and focuses on showing energy security externalities. Author delivers an integrative review focusing on existing literature referring to the analyzed phenomena. Energy security is though studied only from the perspective of economics therefore interdisciplinary studies are out of the study scope. The reason for such scientific procedure stem from a belief that each discipline approach is different in terms of concepts, research methods and though results that are obtained. Therefore without undermining high value of interdisciplinary approaches to energy security, author decided to concentrate solely on economic perspective, which in energy security studies seems to be underestimated. Such approach in author’s belief helps achieve theoretical clarity of the below given analysis.

Article investigates the issue of terms of trade in energy products. The goal of this paper is to check how the terms of trade in energy fluctuate. The analysis is carried out on the example of Poland as a country which offers an interesting energy imports and exports structure. The time horizon covers the period from 2005–2015 and is extended to give the broader picture of the phenomenon wherever possible. In the research, the author uses the barter terms of trade concept. The paper has been organized in four sections. The study opens with introductory remarks presenting Polish energy situation, which is followed by a description of the terms of trade concept on the grounds of international economics. The results of the research are discussed in section three which ends with a summary and conclusions. The last part includes an additional description of study constraints and suggestions the next research steps. The statistical data used in the paper comes from national databases of the Polish Central Statistical Office and international sources such as the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. Additional information on energy prices was derived from recognized branch sources such as BP Statistical Review of World Energy.

W artykule podjęto problem wydobycia węglowodorów niekonwencjonalnych i jego wpływu na bezpieczeństwo energetyczne krajów producentów. Wydobycie węglowodorów niekonwencjonalnych zrewolucjonizowało światowe rynki energii, zarówno w zakresie podaży surowców, jak również ich cen. Wielokrotnie powtarzane argumenty o wpływie wydobycia na bezpieczeństwo energetyczne nie doczekały się dotychczas pogłębionej analizy ekonomicznej. Trudność realizacji tego zadania wynika z faktu, iż bezpieczeństwo energetyczne jest słabo zdefiniowaną koncepcją, przez co ujęcie jej w kategoriach ilościowych stanowi wyzwanie badawcze. Podjęta z sukcesem próba określenia determinant bezpieczeństwa energetycznego przez Erdala (2015) została wykorzystana pod względem metodologicznym w niniejszym artykule. Analiza prowadzona jest na przykładzie wydobycia gazu łupkowego w USA w latach 1983–2010. Badanie składa się z kilku części. Pierwszą z nich stanowi wprowadzenie, w którym przedstawia się w syntetyczny sposób wydobycie węglowodorów niekonwencjonalnych w USA oraz problematykę bezpieczeństwa energetycznego. Drugim elementem opracowania jest objaśnienie przyjętego podejścia metodologicznego. Trzecią część stanowi badanie empiryczne oparte na modelu regresji wielorakiej. Opracowanie kończy podsumowanie uzupełnione o propozycje kierunku dalszych badań. Dane statystyczne wykorzystane w opracowaniu pochodzą z baz Banku Światowego, amerykańskiej Energy Information Administration oraz BP Statistical Review of World Energy. Opracowania wykorzystane w przeglądzie literatury stanowią analizy uznanych ośrodków naukowych oraz organizacji międzynarodowych.
