Abstract

The measurement of lift and drag forces on the omithopter model with flapping wings was carried out in the wind tunnel. The wing movement had two degrees of freedom: flapping (around the longitudinal axis of the model) and feathering (around the wing axis). Forces were measured in static case - as averaged values during many cycles of movement, and in dynamic case - as unsteady forces captured in function of the flapping phase. The magnitudes of the aerodynamic coefficients of lift and drag were calculated.

Abstract

A rich network of bodies of water fed by supraglacial streams has developed in the Hörbyebreen marginal zone due to intensive deglaciation. Most of them are lakelets of 0.1 to 1.0 ha in area and a mean depth of 0.3 to 1.3 m. They developed mainly after 1961. Studies were made of suspended and dissolved sediment concentration, and the ionic composition of the waters of proglacial streams and lakes, followed by an estimate of the balance of the proglacial transport of material. The calculation showed that the total net deposition of mineral material in the marginal zone amounts to 58.45 t per day. which constitutes 56.07 per cent of the total volume transported by proglacial streams. Borings proved sediments deposited in lakes at present to be of little thickness, ranging from 3 to 19 cm. As to litholology, there in a dominance of light-grey silty-clay deposits with a mean grain-size of 5.70 to 6.21 phi, sometimes with thin intercalations of coarse-grained sands and gravels. Chemical analyses shovedthat these deposits contain mostly silicates with small admixtures of Ca and Mg, and that they reflect the geological structure of the area.

Abstract

The dynamics of economic development determines the need to develop technologies for waste recycling especially the acquisition of condensed fuels for the needs of the local diversification of energy sources. In a short time, Poland will probably lack its own produced electricity. To apply the process of diversification of energy sources, by developing methods of generating energy from waste, it becomes crucial to protect the environment. The use of cogeneration technology based on fuels derived from waste, in particular concentrated oil and gas fuels, is becoming more common and provides the basis for securing the energy supply in the preferred diversification process. Plastic waste processing in the controlled depolymerization process, which is the reverse of the polymerization process for hydrocarbon recovery – uses petroleum derivatives its production. At present, the greatest interest arises in the material recovery of plastics and rubber in the process of anaerobic thermal decomposition (thermolysis/pyrolysis), which is used on an industrial scale and consists in the degradation of polymer bonds into low molecular weight. The imperative of a modern economy is to obtain energy from fuels from waste treatment, including hazardous waste, preferably in the cogeneration process. The fuel obtained from waste may be used to obtain thermal or electric energy in order to diversify energy sources. The article presents innovative Polish technologies of obtaining fuel in processes of anaerobic thermal decomposition mainly of elastomeric and polymeric waste (including hazardous ones) for direct application in power generators of various power.

Abstract

An overview of the bibliography regarding the connection of knowledge about precious metal alloys and aspects of the use of computer aided technologies to the optimization of the jewelry casting processes is presented. An analysis of the usability of selected CAx systems was made: 1) for spatial design, called Rhinoceros 6 and 2) CAE system: NovaFlow & Solid (NF&S). The authors describe own research including data acquisition and evaluation of temperature variations during solidification of the selected Au-Ag-Cu alloy, with the identification of the phase transformations of this alloy. The intensity of heat exchange was changed (cooling of specimens under ambient temperature conditions – "normal" intensity and with the furnace – very slow cooling). The problem of completing the simulation database was pointed out and analyzed. Examples of simulations of casting selected jewelry (ring and signet) were given and compared with the result of the experiment realized in real conditions. It was confirmed that the optimization by combining experimental and simulation studies allows for the acquisition of new knowledge, and also facilitates the creation of new artistic designs of jewelry as well as performing the feasibility check, and then optimizing the chosen technology.

Abstract

The helical jet is generated in a tangential pipe nozzle having the tangential and the axial inlets and the axial outlet. The flow directions in free jet spreading in the stationary air was measured by means of a flag type probe. The flow was visualized using the planar scattering technique. It was found that due to asymmetrical distribution of the tangential velocity in the jet leaving the nozzle, the air particles spread in the ambient with various intensity depending on the azimuthal angle. The result is that the jet has a spiral shape with bean-like cross-section.

Abstract

Turbulent boundary layer separation induced by positive pressure gradient at a plane surface is investigated experimentally. Separation is delayed by means of a jet vortex generator in a form of small jets injected to the boundary layer through orifices distributed across the main flow. The effect of jets intensity on delay of separation is examined. Swirled and non-swirled jets have been used. The energy of the air supplying the generator required to delay boundary layer separation is in the former case up to 40% lower than in the latter one.

Abstract

Two semi-circular rods set up in V-shape form were used to generate streamwise vortices in a turbulent boundary layer. The vortices, due to induced helical flow, supplement the streamwise momentum of retarded air particles at the body surface with the momentum of the external flow. In this experimental study it was found that vortices are at their most intensity if the Reynolds number of the flow over generator, based on the diameter of rods is within the range I 04-1.5 · I 04 • Several semi-circular rods set up in a tooth line were examined in delaying the separation of the turbulent boundary layer at a convex cylindrical surface. It has been noted that delay of separation is at its most efficient when the height of the generator is equal to at least half of the boundary layer thickness.

Abstract

The helical flow is generated by a jet from a single nozzle inflowing tangentially into a pipe. The effect of the distance travelled by the air in the pipe from its tangential inlet to its axial outlet on the issuing jet is investigated. The axial and tangential velocity distributions were measured at the outlet cross-section of the pipe using the hot-wire probe. It was observed that for a short pipe the strongest asymmetry of the tlow velocity distributions exists for a part of the pipe crosssection near the pipe wall. Contrary to this, for a long pipe, the largest deviations from axisymmetry appear in the middle part. In this result the total effect of asymmetry expressed by RMS of swirl number considerably decreases.

Abstract

Helical Jet in moving air was used to simulate the flow downstream of a helicopter blade tip or a wing tip. The jet was generated by means of an opened pipe supplied tangentially (tangential nozzle), and placed in a wind tunnel. Flow properties were investigated in several cross-sections downstream of the nozzle. The flow direction and the total pressure were measured in function of the azimuthal angle and the distance from the axis of the system. The flow was visualized using the planar laser scattering technique. The decay of swirl intensity was measured by means of a probe with a rotating plate fixed to a miniature voltage generator.

Abstract

The paper was focused on the reconstruction of past-environmental conditions dynamics based on the geochemical characteristics of sediments filling kettle-hole located in the western part of the Kashubian Lakeland, North Poland). Stratigraphic variability of lithogeochemical constituents and a set of 13 elements (TOC, N, P, Na, Ca, Mg, K, Al, Fe, Mn, Cu, Ni, Zn) were applied for Holocene reconstruction of certain processes and conditions in the studied kettle-hole. The detailed geochemical analysis allowed us to identify 6 phases in its development: Masz-1 stage covering sedimentation of sedge-moss peat over melting dead ice at the turn of the Preboreal and Boreal periods; Masz-2 stage of the initial phase of lake development with deep-water sedimentation; Late Boreal and Atlantic stage Masz-3 related to sedimentation of lacustrine chalk; Subboreal stage Masz-4 representing the beginning of lake terrestrialization; Subatlantic stage Masz-5 of lowland bog, and Masz-6 stage covering final phase of peatland evolution due to human activity. Principle component analysis highlighted the importance of two major factors controlling the geochemical variability of the studied sediments. These are the varied origin of supplying water reflected in the sedimentation of organic-calcareous sediments (PC1), and oxidative-reduction conditions determined by water level fluctuations (PC2).

Abstract

The article presents results of the faunistic analysis of the Leb 1 sediment core collected from the marginal zone of the Lake Łebsko. The 5 m long core contained 10,603 specimens of freshwater and brackish-marine fauna, represented by 13 taxa of molluscs, 3 species of ostracods, 2 taxa of foraminifers and a species of the order Coleoptera, and genera Balanus and Gammarus. Lithology of the sediments and species composition of the fauna permitted distinguishing 3 development phases of the Lake Łebsko: brackish-marine phase (500–400 cm), limnic phase with varied salinity (400–100 cm) and swamp phase (100–0 cm), indicating progressive overgrowing of the marginal zone of the lake since the 13th century.

Abstract

Although currently pole dancing is growing in popularity due to its sport dimension, it seems that such a form of expression is still commonly associated with strip clubs and connotes above all the erotic performance of a woman in front of a male audience. And yet, as one can find by frequenting dance studios that teach pole dancing, it is practiced not only by women, but also by men and children. Thus keeping in mind the ambiguity that arises at the intersection of competing optics in decoding the pole dance—with regard to “perpetuate interpretation logic” and the everyday experience of people undertaking the activity—the aim of this paper is to reflect on the issue of constructing and interpreting the meanings of actions and processes within the context of pole dancing. These processes can be seen as a reflection of the everyday life in which they occur.

Abstract

The work presented here, concentrates on experimental surface roughness analysis in the milling of hardened steel using a monolithic torus mill. Machined surface roughness with respect to milling process dynamics has been investigated. The surface roughness model including cutter displacements has been developed. Cutting forces and cutter displacements (vibrations) were measured in order to estimate their quantitative influence on Ra and Rz parameters. The cutter displacements were measured online using a scanning 3D laser vibrometer. The influence of cutting speed vc on surface roughness parameters (Ra, Rz) was also studied. The research revealed that real surface roughness parameters are significantly higher than those calculated on the basis of a kinematic-geometric basic model, and their values are strongly dependent on dynamic cutter displacements.

Abstract

Pluralism and multiculturalism are new terms in biblical studies . Pluralism used in social sciences means a conditio of society in which members of diverse ethnic, racial, religious or social groups maintain their unique cultural identities. Multicultu-ralism focuses on interactions between different groups and communities within the confines of a common society. This paper aims at analysing the practice and models of pluralism in the Bible and the evaluation of pluralism in the biblical context (from separatism in the Abraham days until the multicultural Christian community in the first century). Christianity existed as a pluralistic community from the beginning. Paul the Apostle presents the Church as the body of Christ and interactions within the Chri-stian community consisting of Jews and Gentiles are illustrated by relations between members of the body. The mission of the Church is based on various models of incul-turation (contextualisation). All of these models intersect with one another in different ways. Pluralism in the biblical studies manifests itself also in the use of different Bible translation strategies and various methods of biblical exegesis and interpretation.
