Abstract

W latach 2000-2002 badano niektóre naturalne i antropogenne właściwości wód powierzchniowych Kampinoskiego Parku Narodowego. Uzyskane wartości średnie omówiono w porównaniu do odpowiednich norm. Analizy większości próbek wykazały, że odpowiadają one I klasie czystości. Benzo(a)pirenu nie wykryto. Jednak w dwóch przypadkach zaobserwowano wysokie stężenie żelaza i manganu. Próbki pobrane w listopadzie zawierały więcej manganu. W jednym przypadku oznaczono wysokie stężenie azotanów. Większość próbek pobranych w Aleksandrowie odpowiadała li klasie czystości ze względu na zawartość fosforanów.

Abstract

The article describes the vegetation growing on settlings and washing tanks situated in the ,,Żabie Doły" area (Bytom). There were recognised 2 plant associations and 6 plant communities which belong to Artemisietea, Molinio-Arrhenatheretea, Calluno-Ulicetea classes. Among them dominate communities from Dauco-Melilotenion suballiance which are confined to dry, permeable soils with the initial soil-forming process (Melilotetum albo-officinalis, Dauco-Picridetum hieracioidis. Calamagrostis epigejos community, So/idago canadensis community). There were recorded also swards (Festuca ovina community) and meadows tDeschampsia caespitosa community, Agrostis capillaris community).

Abstract

The field investigations concerning water and peat bog communities on the territory of Trzebinia in 2000 revealed their little diversity caused by a small number of large water bodies and performed betterment drainages. 12 syntaxa were distinguished which represent 5 classes: Lemnetea minor is (I), Potametea (6), Utricularietea intermedio-minoris (I), Littorelletea uniflorae (I), Scheuchzerio-Caricetea nigrae (I). Among described units 3 plant associations are endangered within Upper Silesia: Myriophylletum verticillati, Hottonietum palustris, Valeriano-Caricetum flavae (montane plant association).

Abstract

As a result of the field survey carried out in the area of Trzebinia in years 1999-2000, 642 vascular plant species were recorded, many of them represented by: Asteraceae. Fabaceae, Cyperaceae, Rosaceae families. 51 taxa were not confirmed. Among life forms hernicryptophytes predominate. With regard to habitat conditions, there are mostly photophilous species preferring full light with temporary shading and temperate warm and temperate cool temperature conditions, fresn and humid soils with pH ranging from light acid to alkaline, rich in organic compounds. sandy-clay or heavy clay soils. In the flora of the town species of alien origin have huge contribution ( 19.8%). Archaeophytes and among kenophytes - agriophytes, are the most frequent. Despite considerable synanthropization the nora of the town is characterized by a large participation of protected species (40) and endangered ones in the scale of Upper Silesia (84). However, there are not many montane species ( 15). The most precious area in Trzebinia, from floristic point view, is Podbuczyna and the most disturbed - the centre and Chechlo.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to estimate the content of 16 PAHs (US EPA list) in plants (com and willow) cultivated in sewage sludge-amended soil. An ultrasonic method and dichloromethane have been used to extract total PAHs content. The solid phase extraction was performed to purify sample extracts. HPLC and UV detection were employed to separate and quantify the studied PAHs. On the basis of the obtained results a bioconcentration factor was calculated. The contents of 16 PAH in plants ranged from 5.83 to 33.8 μg/kg d.m., with a dominant share of low molecular weight PAHs. The application of sewage sludge caused an increase in the PAH content in plants in relation to the dose applied. However, even the highest doses of sewage sludge did not led to the increase of PAI-ls content in plants above the level which may be hazardous for human health. The bioconccntration factors were on the level notted by others authors and ranged from 0.04 to 0.38 for the sum of 16 PAH.

Abstract

The aim of these studies was to determine solubility and availability of the heavy metals in soil using single extraction procedure. The acid extractants: 1 M HCI, 10% HNO, and 0.43 M CH,COOH were tested as eluents. Extracting capacity of inorganic acids were higher than 65% of total Pb and Zn and hardly depended on their total content. Acetic acid leached less than 5% of total Cu, Ni and Pb. A statistical analysis showed that physico-chemical soil parameters affected heavy metals solubility in acids eluents. Single extraction in acid solution is a simple way to determine the soil contamination with heavy metals.

Abstract

The paper presents the results of studies of sanitary microorganisms' vertical distribution in pelagial and profundal waters of Lake Wigry against the background of thermal-oxygen relations and the presence of a chosen chemical compound in the annual cycle. Total Viable Count at 20°C (TYC 20°C) and Total Viable Count at 37°C (TYC 37°C) were used as indicators of pollution, while Total Coli (TC), Faecal Coli (FC) and Faecal Streptococcus-Enterococcus (FS) - as indicators of the sanitary state. Water samples were collected from 3 sites situated in the centre of the lake. Pelagial and profundal waters showed a little degree of pollution. Higher bacteriological pollution was found in some of waters samples from Lake Wigry at site I in the vicinity of the mouth of the Czarna Hańcza River. The most numerous sanitary microorganisms were detected at the deep from I to 5 meters and above the bottom sediments. Number of FC bacteria was only higher at the depth of 5 meters and deeper. An important positive correlation was noted between temperature and TYC 20°C as well as TYC 37°C, while negative between TC also FC during the whole study period. The oxygen content was correlated negative with TYC 20°C, TYC 37°C and FS. The depth was correlated negatively with TYC 20°C only.

Abstract

There is a need for quality control of wastewater introduced into drainage systems. Physical and chemical analyses of wastewater inform only about the situation existing at the moment of sampling. The analysis based on bioindication methods allows to evaluate the existing state before sampling and so to recognize a drop of excessive loads or harmful substances for activated sludge. This refers to the moment preceding the sample taking at least by the generation time of the species with the lowest reproduction rate. For these reasons, the possibility of using microfauna representatives (feeding on organic pollutions) for bioindication was evaluated. The estimation was made of the usefulness of indicator species from the Kolkwitz-Marssori system, the Shannon-Wiener index based on species abundance and the latter based on abundances of morphological-functional organism groups. The study results showed that the ShannonWiener index calculated for morphological-functional groups (easiest to determine) was accurate enough for bioindication.

Abstract

Abstract

The oxygen and thermal conditions in Lake Ińsko were examined in years 1999-2000. Lake Ińsko is one of a dynamictic type and its waters are mixed twice a year. This lake has a strong thermal and oxygen stratification. The oxygen conditions in the lake are very good because the total deficiency of oxygen appears only in summer, on the depth below 30 m, and only in the areas where the influence of town of Ińsko is the strongest. During autumn and winter circulation the concentration of oxygen near the bottom reaches 5 mg O2 dm-3. The concentration of oxygen in the water reflects favorable conditions of biomass production, including primary production of phytoplankton in epilimnion of Lake Ińsko. The intensive development of algas has considerably influenced the transparency of water. On the background of vertical thermal and oxygen differences during the summer there were also differences in the reactions of water.

Abstract

Phytosociological studies carried out in the forests of Silesian Upland and Głubczyce Plateau during the years 1994-2000 showed a widespread distribution of Impatiens parv!flora. It ranges from coniferous and mixed forests to alder carrs, riverside carrs, oak-hornbeam phytocoenoses, and beechwood associations. The optimal conditions for Impatiens parviflora are those found in Ti/io-Carpinetum typicum. Nevertheless, the highest percentage cover of that species occurred in heavily degenerated communities which were the result of clear-felling and tree planting.
