Abstract

The aim study is the development of the classification of agricultural enterprises, based on the properties of the distribution of enterprises depending on the size of the land bank. To achieve this aim, open databases of agricultural enterprises were used, from which data for the Dnipropetrovsk district were selected. The data is not official. They are collected according to the data provided by the agricultural enterprises themselves. Since the official statistics group of small enterprises with up to 200 ha of land includes a fairly large number of enterprises that exist only formally, and since actively functioning enterprises are voluntarily registered in the databases used for the study, the developed classification reflects the real situation with agricultural enterprises in the Dnipropetrovsk district. The proposed scheme of a grouping of agricultural enterprises is regular, logarithmically uniform and based on the exponential increase of the land bank of agricultural enterprises. Its parameters are chosen in such a way as to take into account the classification of farms used in the Tax Code of Ukraine. The developed grouping of agricultural enterprises was used to analyze such characteristics of enterprises as types of production and organizational and legal forms of management. The analysis of the distribution showed that with the decrease of the land bank the number of farms increases and the number of enterprises, whose forms of management are joint-stock companies of different types, decreases.

Abstract

This paper summarizes the contribution of Polish scientific units to the development of the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) in recent years. We discuss the issues related to the integration of space geodetic techniques and co-location in space onboard Global Navigation Satellites Systems (GNSS) and Low Earth Orbiters (LEO), as well as perspectives introduced by the new European Space Agency’s (ESA) mission GENESIS. We summarize recent developments in terms of the European Galileo system and its contribution to satellite geodesy and general relativity, as well as ESA’s recent initiative – Moonlight to establish a satellite navigation and communication system for the Moon. Recent progress in troposphere delay modeling in Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) allowed for better handling of systematic errors in SLR, such as range biases and tropospheric biases. We discuss enhanced tropospheric delay models for SLR based on numerical weather models with empirical corrections, which improve the consistency between space geodetic parameters derived using different techniques, such as SLR, GNSS, and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI). Finally, we review recent progress in the development of Polish GGOS scientific infrastructure in the framework of the European Plate Observing System project EPOS-PL¸.

Abstract

The paper presents the concept of new swirl inserts. An empty two-phase swirl flow atomizer, and three atomizers with inserts were designed, manufactured and tested. The tested atomizers did not differ in terms of their geometric dimensions, with the only variable being the type swirl chamber filling. Flow resistance and spray angle values were analysed for all the evaluated structures. It was shown that the presence of a swirl insert does not significantly increase flow resistance, but instead results in larger spray angles. Taking into account the values of flow resistance and spray angles, the best design solution turned out to be the set of inserts No. 2.

Abstract

In the paper, the mixing power and distributions of velocity and velocity pulsations in a baffled stirred tank with a flat blade turbine impeller placed at different distances from the bottom were determined. It was found that the mixing power reaches minimum values when the relative clearance of the impeller is C/D = 0.6÷0.7. The investigations of velocity distributions using the PIV method showed the axial flow of the liquid through the impeller. This results in deviations from the typical radial-circumferential flow and changes in mixing power vs. impeller clearance versus a Rushton impeller. With a clearance corresponding to the minimum power, the flow is axial-circumferential with one circulation loop. For a flat blade turbine impeller, good mixing conditions are obtained for a clearance of 0.8 < C/D < 0.9.

Abstract

When designing injectable scaffolds for biomedical applications, it is crucial to determine the conditions for the formation of unlimited structures, in particular the kinetics at constant temperature. Despite many studies, these conditions have not been characterized so far after injection, which is such an important application aspect. The aim of the research is to discuss the impact of the injection application on the polymer structure and to propose new criteria for assessing the potential of thermosensitive biopolymer sols, considering the flow under high shear rates during the administration.
Based on the analysis of the obtained results of rheological tests, it was shown that the flow through the needles causes a significant change in the elastic properties that define the polymer structure, with almost unchanged viscous properties. As a consequence, the parameters characterizing the polymer coil change, which, combined with the quantitatively proven fragmentation, indicates that injection application may affect the size of the coils that will not reach the critical size of the aggregating nucleus.
Finally, extended research procedures for the conscious design of injectable scaffolds are proposed as well as key rheological parameters to ensure thermoinduced aggregation preceded by shear during injection are provided.

Abstract

Yeast infections such as otitis externa and seborrheic dermatitis in dogs and cats are frequently associated with Malassezia pachydermatis secondary infection. It is part of the normal cutaneous microflora of most warm-blooded vertebrates, however, under certain conditions, it can become a causative agent of infection that needs to be treated pharmacologically. Azole derivatives are the drugs of the first choice. An interesting trend in developing resistance is the use of natural substances, which include manuka honey with confirmed antimicrobial properties. The main intention of this research was to evaluate the mutual effect of manuka honey in combination with four conventional azole antifungals – clotrimazole, fluconazole, itraconazole, and miconazole – on 14 Malassezia pachydermatis isolates obtained from dogs and 1 reference strain. A slightly modified M27–A3 method (CLSI 2008) and the checkerboard test (Nikolić et al. 2017) were used for this purpose. Our results show an additive effect of all 4 antifungals with manuka honey concurrent use. Based on the determined values of fractional inhibitory concentration index (FICI – 0.74±0.03 when manuka honey combined with clotrimazole, 0.96±0.08 with fluconazole, 1.0±0 with miconazole and 1.16±0.26 with itraconazole), it was found in all cases that the effect of substances used is more pronounced in mutual combination than when used separately.
