Abstract

The paper presents an analysis of a 100-meter wind measurement guyed mast located in the north-western part of the United States, in the state of Oregon. Using the RFEM software [1], the influence of the wind on the mast was analyzed according to the guidelines of two standards: American TIA-222-H [2] and European EN 1993-3-1 [3]. The purpose of this work is to show the differences between the results of static computations of the mast in terms of the considered standards. Due to the limited content of the work, the icing load on the structure was ignored in the analysis and the focus was on determining the response of the mast only in terms of wind action. The author tried to describe the differences in this respect between the standard guidelines [2] and [3]. The comments and conclusions regarding the analysis of guyed masts presented in the article have some practical aspects and can be used in design practice.

Abstract

The work is an attempt to assess piped water quality in four counties located in east central Poland. Piped water was analysed for three successive years in each county. Water samples were tested for the following physical and chemical parameters: turbidity, colour, conductivity, taste, odour, pH, nitrates (III), nitrates (V), iron and manganese. They were compared with the current standard values. Preliminary data analysis included an analysis of maximum and minimum values of physical and chemical parameters, and it revealed that turbidity, colour, iron and manganese contents exceeded the permissible standards in all the counties. Percentages of parameters exceedances and mean values of the exceedances were used to rank the counties in terms of water quality. The ranking was obtained by means of multidimensional comparative analysis. It was demonstrated that best quality water was supplied by Węgrów County water supply system which was followed by Mińsk Mazowiecki County. The third rank was assigned to Łosice County and the poorest quality water was found to be supplied by Siedlce County water supply system.

Abstract

The use of FRP materials as external reinforcement of masonry structures has been recognized as an effective and minimally invasive method ofwall strengthening. The available literature and research reports confirmthe positive effect of the strip-like arrangement of composites with a horizontal, diagonal and – as shown in the paper – vertical configuration. The problem here is the proper estimation of the benefits of such FRP reinforcement, namely determining the real increase in shear strength. The paper described selected calculation procedures that can be found in the available literature (proprietary solutions), as well as in the published guidelines for the design of masonry walls strengthening using FRP materials. The results of experimental tests of sheared masonry walls made of AAC blocks and strengthened using vertical strips of carbon and glass fibres are briefly presented. Finally, based on the presented formulae, the values of the theoretical shear force resulted from the FRP contribution were calculated and detailed discussed.
The comparison of the experimental and theoretical shear forces showed that only one of the presented calculation methods gave a high agreement of the results for both carbon and glass sheets. In addition, it was noticed that in two cases the effects of strengthening – depending on the material used – drastically differed, which was not observed in the research.

Abstract

The subject of the paper is the analysis of factors determining the value of multi-entity organizations in the energy sector and their ranking according to the degree of impact on this value. For this purpose, statistical methods were used, which are best suited to determine the order of diagnostic features according to a specific criterion. The survey covered companies from the Polish energy sector, while the process itself is based on aggregated data, which represents the financial data of capital groups currently operating in the Polish energy sector.

The first part of the article presents a short description of the Polish energy sector, paying particular attention to the organizational structure of the sector, i.e. companies operating on the domestic energy market. The nature of a multi-entity enterprise as a typical economic unit in the sector is described. The second part of the article describes the assumptions of multidimensional comparative analysis (MCA) as a tool for comparing multifunctional units. The MCA makes it possible to find the most important parameters or indicators having the greatest impact on the value of a multi-entity organization, i.e. a capital group. The survey covered four companies from the Polish energy sector: TAURON Polska Energia SA, ENEA SA, ENERGA SA and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA.

The study with the use of MCA was conducted in three stages:

- in the first stage, on the basis of information contained in the financial statements, a matrix of diagnostic features was created, describing the financial condition of the examined entity,

- in the second stage, the values of diagnostic variables were normalized/unified; two methods of normalization were applied: the method of standardization and zero unitization,

- in the third stage, the diagnostic variables were grouped using two methods: the model measure of Hellwig’s development and the non-standard measure of development.

The results of the analysis are illustrated by tables and figures.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate the tourism and recreational space of Lubaczowski County in Poland. The evaluation was carried out by using a multidimensional comparative analysis while taking into account tourism assets, transportation accessibility, natural environmental protection, the level of tourism infrastructure development as well as the factors contributing to an opportunity for the development of tourism via investment attractiveness (the level of infrastructure development, population relations, or the financial situation of the communes). Moreover, a questionnaire survey was carried out among the inhabitants with the aim of learning of their opinions on tourism assets and tourism infrastructure development in the commune. The study is supplemented by a comparison of the analysis results with the results of a questionnaire survey conducted among the Lubaczowski County inhabitants, which concerned the county’s attractiveness to tourists. Based on the evaluation and the questionnaire survey results, it was found that urban communes of Lubaczów and Horyniec-Zdrój had the best conditions for tourism development. These communes took the first (0.701) and the second (0.492) position in the ranking, respectively. Both communes are characterised by well-developed accommodation and catering facilities, a wealth of natural assets, and good transportation accessibility. For the better development of tourism in the county, it is necessary to take appropriate measures aimed at eliminating limitations and highlighting the strengths. To this end, it will be necessary to incorporate measures aimed at enhancing the quality of tourism infrastructure development and establishing a marketing plan that will allow tourists to learn about the tourism assets of the commune into the strategy for commune development.
