In this text is taken the issue of doctoral studies as the highest level of formal education as well as the first stage of their research careers. Use the category of “critical mass” I put questions about the PhD program in the discipline of Pedagogy. One of the context of analysis of “critical mass” is the number of the pedagogy students I and II degree and the social contexts of education as well as employability qualified pedagogs. Then, I ask, who and why needs a PhD in pedagogy. At the end I discuss the European trends in doctoral education with comparing it to the dominance the administrative and bureaucratic approach to doctoral studies in Poland.

Abstract

This contribution discusses the unresolved claims of Poland and Germany arising from the destruction, removal, and appropriation of cultural property during and immediately following the Second World War; viewed against the background of the 50th anniversary of the 1970 Warsaw Treaty and the 30th anniversary of the 1990 2+4 Treaty. It provides an analysis of the extent to which these and other bilateral treaties between Germany and Poland impose legal obligations to restore or compensate for the destruction or loss of cultural property. Finally, it suggests pragmatic solutions to overcome the convoluted political, diplomatic and legal debates in the spirit of “cultural internationalism” and in line with the proposals of the Copernicus Group of Polish and German historians.

Abstract

This article deals primarily with La quistione polacca, an anthology of historical documents on Poland after the partitions compiled by Giorgio d’Acandia. Ever since its publication in 1916, in Italy this book has remained an important source of information about Poland and manifest proof of reciprocity of the Polish-Italian relations. Its direct effect was to raise the awareness of ‘the Polish question’ among the Italian politicians and to help them make up their minds about the justness of the struggle for Poland’s independence. The article assesses the content of the book and the selection criteria of its texts. It also presents a profile of the author Umberto Zanotti Bianco (Giorgio d’Acandia was a pseudonym), which features his contacts with Attilio Begey and the community of Italian polonophiles, his interest in Polish literature and culture, his worldview, grounded in Christianity, and, last not least, his philanthropic work and political activities.
