Abstract

Paper discusses an issue of old-time gentry estates landscape formation based on po-lish agricultural textbooks. Theoretical proposals as well as real-life structures of gentry estates on polish lands in pre-parti-tion and post-partition times are analyzed. Article presents both rules of shaping mo-dest gardens of decorative and utilitarian functions alike in the vicinity of mansions, and other components of estate’s land-scape. Partial concurrence between theore-tical postulates and real land use is proven.

Abstract

Bezpieczeństwo to jedna z podstawowych potrzeb człowieka. Od czasów neolitu potrzebę tę spełniano poprzez specjalną organizację przestrzeni ludzkich siedzib – jako scenografii spodziewanych walk. Artyleria dalekosiężna zatrzymała rozwój fortyfikacji bastionowej, kleszczowej i poligonalnej, otwierając erę fortów, twierdz pierścieniowych, a w końcu fortyfikacji rozproszonej, broniącej granic krajów jako fronty ufortyfikowane. Paradoksalnie krajobraz, przygotowany jako przyszłe pole walk fortecznych – wyglądał jako pokojowy, parkowy, romantyczny krajobraz w typie angielskich ogrodów w stylu „beautifull”. Krajobraz znany z krwawych walk z okresu I Wojny Światowej obecnie nadal pozostają w służbie. Pełniąc funkcje wielkich kompleksów memorialnych, muzeów otwartych i wielkich kompleksów zieleni, zauważanych w planach rozwojów miast. Projektowane według indywidualnych kierunków opracowanych przez austro-węgierską inżynierię wojskową, w skrajnie trudnych warunkach taktycznych i ekonomicznych, realizowane były w specyficznych warunkach federacyjnego państwa – swoistej „wspólnoty europejskiej”. Ich wyjątkowe i uniwersalne wartości stanowią podstawę do starań o ich transgraniczny wpis na Listę Światowego Dziedzictwa UNESCO.

Abstract

Applying the commonly accepted definitions of identity to landscape as our field of research, in particular landscape in protected areas, we assume that identity is the deepest relationship with the landscape (surroundings) perceived by man, with its historical layers of content (the culture and tradition of a place) and form (the canon of a place). An evaluation of change in time should be the keynote of deliberations on place identity. Basing on the current status of research, a review of specialist literature and the author’s experience to date, the above definitions and terms may be referenced to talk about “former” and “new” place identity, especially if we acquiesce to what is termed “the culture of a place” that originates in love for it and willingness to participate in the act of creation that has been launched upon the site. Author tries to explain this fenomenom on example of revitalization, on scale of conntry or even the Europe – the cultural – strategic landscape od Zamość Fortress.

Abstract

Od dziesięcioleci trwa złożony i silnie postępujący proces zagospodarowywania polskiego wybrzeża. Doprowadziło to do głębokiej degradacji krajobrazu kulturowego miejscowości nadmorskich.

Abstract

This paper presents contemporary tendencies in the shaping of public spaces and urban green areas in Budapest. It is a review of built designs of plazas, boulevards and city squares that have been completed in the span of the last few years and which implement contemporary trends in landscape architecture and city design. All of the presented sites are located in the historical city centre, entering into direct and often controversial relations with the historical built environment and monuments. The presented structures are distinguished by modern forms and aesthetics as well as a high quality of design solutions. They have been shaped with the use of modern, ahistoric materials and technologies, with creative plant and water arrangements. They create attractive recreation and contemplation spaces surrounded by greenery, conducive to social integration, and at the same time exposing monuments and bringing them closer to contemporary recipients.

Abstract

This article presents the historic town of Røros, which has been inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1980. Røros is located on the river Glomma, in central and eastern Norway, in the Sør-Trøndelag region. Settlement in this area developed around the mid-17th century when rich copper deposits were discovered. Not only the mining tradition of the town from that period, but also timber houses, a water transport system and relics of a former foundry as well as machines used for copper mining have survived until the present. The indicated elements of the cultural heritage of the town confirm its unique character on the European scale, while the cooperation between the local community and authorities in order to protect and revalorise the complex is exemplary. According to the Authors, such cooperation is indispensable for the process of protection and revalorisation of cultural heritage to run smoothly, of which Røros is proof.
