The article contains a bibliometric analysis and a concise review of the achievements of Marian Gierula (1955–2020). In the period 1981–2019, the author published 164 original scientific publications, including 85 articles and monographs in Polish, English and German, 42 in Russian and 37 research reports and expertises.

Previous onomastic research into proper names in the Internet has typically been based on traditional and classic onomastic methodology. As a result, researchers have focused on the classification of names, the analysis of their structure, etymology, or function. In this paper, this traditional approach is compared with the new possibilities afforded by medioonomastics, a fast growing method which is combining the onomastic tradition and mediolinguistics. This paper provides only an outline and is only preliminary, although some analysis is also presented. It reviews onomastic techniques and the medioonomastic analysis of the names that function within the various types of texts in the Internet. Some examples are taken from Internet memes, as well as from Facebook profiles. One of these names is the Polish given name, Janusz, which is a brilliant example of the specific new functions, connotations and general semantic values generated by the Internet. This name has gained a new meaning: ‘a typical Polish man’, ‘unfashionable man’, ‘a redneck’. Another name is the title of the Facebook profile Chujowa Pani Domu, based on the TV-series Perfekcyjna Pani Domu, as a kind of semantic and pragmatic re-construction of the latter name. In the conclusion, the necessity of considering not only the type of object-named, but also the medium and especially the Internet, is emphasized. Such studies may offer a correct procedure for analysis which include the new medioonomastic methodology.

This article presents the role and thematic content of the Rocznik Historii Prasy Polskiej [ Yearbook of the History of Polish Press] (1998–2022), especially the period 2018–2022.

This article contains a bibliometric analysis and an overview of the lifetime achievement of Jerzy Leonard Myśliński (1934–2022). He authored 287 academic publications devoted mostly to media history (81%), including 25 monographs, 30 studies published in collective works, and more than 232 articles and reviews. A citation analysis of his contributions shows that Jerzy Leonard Myśliński ranks as one of the most highly cited historians of the Polish press in 1960–2010.

Post-truth and parody in old and new media – This paper presents a description of a few issues of the satirical magazine Il Male, published in Italy in the second half of the 1970s. These special issues – somewhat parodies – copied the typographic format of the main Italian newspapers of that period and were filled with odd and invented news. In some respects these publications anticipate parody and falsification in the digital era. In particular, some Internet sites that play on the slight distinction between false and true reports, and make us reflect upon the reliability of the information, can be considered as heirs to this experiment.

The main aim of the article was to present two emerging discourses of contemporary historiography in the field of digital media. In the first example, the authors present the thought of Niels Brügger, called the Web History and Web-minded historiography, which concentrates upon the digital source itself. The other school is marked by the works of Friedrich Kittler and Wolfgang Ernst, and called media archaeology. It underlines the concept of the medium itself as a primary object of research.

The article examines the trends in social communication in Poland in 1980–1981. Having analyzed multiple sources and research studies, the author comes to the conclusion that in this watershed period in Polish postwar history was characterized not only by stricter control of the official information channels but also a grassroot pushback manifested in the rise of uncensored bulletins, leaflets and propaganda posters.

This is a report on the work of the Commission of Press Studies of the Cracow Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences in 1973–2022. Based on archive materials, it presents the Commission's origins, profile, function-ing, membership statistics and members' affiliations, and its coverage of an evolving research scene.
