Artykuł przedstawia zapis procesów projektowych konkursowych związanych z planowaną realizacją założenia krajobrazowego, rzeźbiarsko-architektonicznego w Parku Konstytucji 3 Maja w Białymstoku. Tematyka pracy dotyczy zagadnień określania zasad kształtowania kompozycji oraz budowy i morfologii formy architektoniczno-krajobrazowej. Projekt ukazany będzie w kontekście doświadczeń dydaktycznych na Wydziale Budownictwa i Inżynierii Środowiska Politechniki Białostockiej, na kierunku Architektura Krajobrazu.

At the entrance to the Grand Theatre in Poznań (built in 1910), there are two sculptural groups: Lyric, represented by a young woman sitting on a lion, by Constantin Starck (1866–1939), and Drama, featured as a young man with laurel wreath striding with a leopard at his side, by Georges Morin (1874– 1950). Both works have not been convincingly explained until now. The author identifies the Lyric as Euterpe, the Muse of lyric poetry, and the Drama as the young Dionysus. The pair put in front of the theatre entrance is modelled on similar artworks elsewhere in Europe, such as the statues at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and the Konzerthaus in Berlin.

The essay describes the exhibition Chroma held at the Metropolitan Museum in New York (5th June 2022 – 26th March 2023) on the subject of polychromy in Ancient Greek sculpture. The author presents a short description of the history of research into the Greeks painting their sculptures as well as of the political context of this issue, in which the whiteness of the marble statues is intertwined with the idea of a white Western European civilization. Another important context is that of the American political landscape, in particular far-right, racist movements, which often appropriate symbols connected with what they see as “white” Greek civilization.

After moving to Italy in 1856, Teofil Lenartowicz, inspired by the great Italian art and supported by the best Florentine artists of the time Giovanni Dupré and Enrico Pazzi, began studying sculpture. Lenartowicz’s sculptures were always connected with literature: his work shows howone influenced the other. It is no accident that his style as a sculptor has been called ‘poetic’ by the critics. The Polish immigrant was fascinated by the Italian Renaissance, and especially by the art of Lorenzo Ghiberti. At the same time, he never forgot about Polish folklore, which played a significant role in his artistic vision. One of the most impressive examples of this intersection of influences is the bas-relief The Holy Workers, complemented by a poem bearing the same name.
