Researching intersemiotic relationships between dance and literature poses a real challenge to both literary scholars and choreologists. Fascinating as it is, this aspect of the performative arts is exceptionally difficult to study due to the nonverbal nature of dance. However, once we assume that the two spheres of human expression are complementary, it should be possible to identify a number of intriguing interrelations between the two and to gain insight into a complex web of mutual inspiration and dependency. This article attempts to revisit some of the most important studies dealing with the representation of dance in fiction and the interpretation of dance as text. The list includes both Polish and foreign authors whose work could provide an inspiration and starting point for further research, including comparative studies.

The article describes semantic roles of instrumental case (tvoritel’nyj padezh) in Russian and other Slavic languages. Its functions as the instrument, agent, route, temporative, vehicle, comparison, nominal predicate and object of action, and their place in human mental world are considered. Examples of izosemic (standard) and non-izosemic realization of these functions are provided. It is concluded that each semantic role is associated with the specifi c range of lexemes. The idea of interdependence or syncretism of meanings of the instrumental case is discussed. Examples from modern fi ction, where the opposition between certain functions of instrumental case is neutralized, worn off, are provided too. It is hypothesized that in certain discourse circumstances the instrumental case becomes the symbol of common dependency of noun from verb.

This article will focus on different forms of hybridization in the contemporary Belgian fantasy novel. It demonstrates aesthetic communion by referring to four authors: Alain Dartevelle, Christopher Gérard, Thomas Gunzig and Bernard Quiriny. By analyzing the syncretism at once generic, poetic and stylistic of their novels, it traces the contours of their mixed writing. It also reflects on the place that these novelists reserve for the supernatural, an ingredient inherent in fantastic alchemy, as well as on the national, even Belgian, character of their writing.
