 abstract={The aim of this paper is to analyse the influence of the morphology construction of the verb on its meaning. The subject-matter of the description is verbs that express the cessation of life in the German and Polish languages. Because the derivatives and compounds form the predominant constituent part of the whole verb vocabulary in both languages and this refers also to our verb collection, the study is restricted to these types of verbs. After taking a general view of the partially different kinds of verb-formation in Polish and German and the explanation of the terminology in use, the author discusses the semantics of the particular prefixes, suffixes and the first elements of compounds as well as their influence on the meaning of the complete verbs and if necessary on the syntagmatic connecting of lexems. Tlie final section of the article is devoted to a presentation of some contrastive remarks on the verbs under investigation.},
