The purpose of this study is therefore to identify and describe factors influencing the translation of these tropes into Spanish. For this purpose, a definition of the concept of metaphor is given and its various types are considered, as well as a comprehensive description of some approaches and points of view on the translatability of these means of expression. Concerning the practical part, some examples of the types of metaphors which may be found in Pasternak’s novel are given together with illustrations. Additionally, their comparative analysis is performed with translations into Spanish; and trends, similarities and differences found in the approaches of translators are examined, considering some cases of loss of imagery in comparison with the original text. Finally, possible solutions to translation problems are also proposed.}, title={Metaphors in the Novel Doctor Zhivago and Their Translation into Spanish}, type={Article}, URL={http://journals.pan.pl/Content/133830/2024-02-SOR-PDF-10.pdf}, doi={10.24425/slo.2024.151729}, keywords={metaphor, cultural reference, translation, Pasternak}, }
