abstract={This article offers the preliminary results of an ongoing investigation into the dialectal Arabic lexicon contained in North-African written sources. The period considered goes from the Middle Ages to the end of the 12th/XVIIIth century and the geographical area taken into account extends from Morocco to Egypt (with the exception of Mauritania). For this work, twenty-seven texts were used which belong to historiographical genres as diverse as historical chronicles, geographical literature, hagiographical texts, Arabic language manuals, etc. The present paper is strictly limited to the sole presentation of the materials. Linguistic questions can be addressed later by dialectologists and linguists.},
