 abstract={This paper reviews theoretical considerations and empirical evidence on the comprehension of counterfactuals. The author sheds light on the issue of fake past and dual meaning. The theories of counterfactuals comprehension are assessed in light of empirical findings. The author supports the view that people hold in mind two meanings of counterfactuals. Based on this account, it is highlighted to differentiate three types of conditionals: suppositional, factual and counterfactual.},
