Aims and Scope“Meander” is an annual journal devoted to ancient culture, published by the Committee on Ancient Culture of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The first issue of the journal appeared in 1946, its cofounders were Kazimierz Kumaniecki and Kazimierz Michałowski.
Research papers printed in “Meander” – articles and translations – are fitted with a scholarly apparatus (footnotes, exhaustive bibliography). The scope of the subject matter corresponds to the scholarly profile of the Committee on Ancient Culture and comprises a number of areas related to ancient culture, including classical literature, Greek and Latin language, ancient history, archaeology, history of art, philosophy, reception of Antiquity in European culture and Polish studies on Antiquity.
“Meander” welcomes submissions from both established scholars and authors at early stages of their career. Apart from scholarly articles we publish book reviews, essays, interviews with and obituaries of illustrious scholars, reports from events related to Classics as well as literary works inspired by ancient culture. Our mission and aim is to propagate knowledge about ancient culture among Polish readers – expert scholars and non-specialist enthusiasts alike – while maintaining the highest scholarly standards. It is the hope of the editorial board that the variety of texts published in “Meander” reflects the richness of classical studies in Poland and the diverse group of scholars who undertake them.
All scholarly articles appearing in “Meander” undergo peer review; all papers are published after a thorough editing process.
The language of publication is Polish.
Content of "Meander" is archived with a long-term preservation service by the National Library of Poland.
