Abstract

The operating subway tunnel is often damaged due to excessive deformation in China. In order to ensure the safe for operation, remediation and protection measures must be taken, especially in soft soil areas. This paper presents a case study on remedial scheme of damaged TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) tunnel adjacent to excavation combining with MJS (Metro Jet System) and micro-disturbance grouting technology in Hangzhou, China. The track bed settlement, horizontal displacement and convergence of the TBM tunnel caused by MJS and micro-disturbance grouting construction were analyzed and discussed. The results showed the characteristics of soil layer under the tunnel have significant influence on the treatment effect. Even if multiple grouting was adopted, the treatment failure may occur under the combination action of external loads such as traffic load or surcharge load, which should be considered when civil engineers design remediation scheme. The results can provide practical experience and guidance for similar treatment scheme of damaged TBM tunnel.

Abstract

The article discusses "Rules for using the point rating scales for assessing the technical condition and usability of road engineering objects – second edition", which were introduced by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) Regulation No. 1/2019. The main objective of "Rules..." was to standardize the method of point rating assessment of technical condition and usability, and in the second edition, to take into account the latest construction and material solutions. Because the results of inspections are analyzed and compared not only at the regional but also at the national level, it is very important for all inspectors in the country to evaluate the technical condition and usability in an analogous manner. While developing the 2nd edition, the authors maintained the assumptions of continuity of inspection system, including adaptation to the inspection manuals, algorithms, and software supporting the management of bridges.

Abstract

In the developing countries, to build earthquake resistance construction along with seismic retrofit technology, the focus towards global warming problems along with sustainable society, production utilizing natural material, Bamboo lower-cost faster-growing and broad distribution of growth is promoted crucially. To get knowledge about the Bamboo Reinforced Concrete’s (BRC) mechanical behavior along with to verify the variations of structural properties betwixt Steel Reinforced Concrete (SRC) and BRC, researches have been made by several authors. BRC beams are simple, effective, along with cost-effective for rural construction and for which the trials are made in these studies. There is a huge concern over the lifespan of bamboo as it is employed as a substitute for steel; thus, it is enhanced by undergoing certain mechanical along with chemical treatments. The parametric study displays that regarding the robustness along with stability, bamboo is utilized in Reinforced Concrete (RC). Here, the Bamboo Reinforcement’s (BR) performance together with its durability is illustrated by assessing the laboratory determinations as of the available literature.

Abstract

Image intensifier tubes (IITs) are the most important modules of night vision devices used in huge numbers by military forces worldwide. Resolution is the most important parameter of IITs that presents information about ability of these devices to produce output images preserving information about details of the observed scenery. Despite its importance, it is still a common practice to measure resolution subjectively, by an observer looking at image of a resolution target created by a tested IIT. A series of attempts have been carried out to develop objective methods for accurate resolution measurement of IITs but with limited success. Accuracy of these methods varies depending on the tested IIT. This paper presents detailed analysis of proposed methods for objective resolution measurement. This analysis has shown that significant variability of accuracy of these methods is caused by one main drawback: the methods do not take into account influence of the spatial noise effect on human perception of image of the resolution target. Thus, an improved method taking into account spatial noise and its impact on target detection has been proposed. The method has been validated through experimental verification that shows accuracy improvements compared to other objective methods. This new approach improves accuracy of measurement of resolution of IITs to a level that can be accepted at professional test stations. In this way, this new method has potential to replace the standard subjective method to measure resolution of IITs and fix the biggest flaw of the standard test stations: measurement subjectivity.
