Abstract

The author presents the search for the identity of individuals and families displaced after World War II from Vilnius to Gdańsk in the context of the urban community integration. Gdańsk being a city where the population after the war was almost fully replaced, becomes in this sense a kind of laboratory of social integration processes. The text serves as an introduction to the topic and is based on the results of the pilot qualitative research conducted within the The Common Room Gdańsk” (2013–2015) project coordinated by prof. M. Mendel. The analyses are a contribution to the reflection on identity determinants of integration processes within the urban community, also in relation to contemporary times. When discussing the issues of identity, the author points to the importance of the turning point which was the end of World War II, and the experience of expatriation in the spatial and socio-cultural context.

Abstract

The present article relates to the subject of the relocation of buildings. It presents a historical background of operations of this type carried out in the past around the world, as well as in Poland. It goes on to discuss in more detail some pioneering structural and technological solutions used during the relocation of the Rogatka Grochowska (Grochowska tollgate) building, carried out in 1961 in Warsaw. The article’s main theme is the process of relocation of a historic building No. 15 within the old Norblin Factory in Warsaw, which took place during the final months of 2018. The article briefly presents the factory’s history. It also describes the assumptions of the related project, which covers the development of the old Norblin Factory. It discusses in detail the concept and the scope of the relocation of building No. 15, with the description of the structural and technical design related to this process. The progress of the relocation which took place in 2018 has been reported in detail.

Abstract

Embedded delamination growth stability was analysed with the help of the FEM combined with a specially developed procedure for node relocation to obtain a smooth variation of the SERR components along the delamination contour. The procedure consisted in the replacement of the actual material with the very compliant fictitious one and the displacement of the delamination front nodes by the previously determined distance in a local coordinate system. Due to this loading, the new delamination front was created. Subsequently, the original material was restored. Evolution under inplane compression of three initially circular delaminations of diameters d = 30, 40 and 50 mm embedded in thin laminates of two different stacking sequences were considered. It was found that the growth history and the magnitude of the load that triggers unstable delamination growth depended mainly on the combined effects of the initial delamination size, delamination contour, out of plane post-buckling geometry of the disbonded layers, reinforcement arrangement, and magnitude and variation of the SERR components along the delamination contour. To present the combined effect of these features, an original concept of the effective resistance curve, G Reff , was introduced.

Abstract

Maritime freight transport represents an effective solution, allowing to ensure a low-impact

service both under an economic and a sustainable perspective. As a consequence, in the last

ten years, an increasing trend of goods transported by sea has been observed. In order to

improve the terminal containers’ performance, recently published scientific studies shown

the applicability of the ‘lean logistic’ concept as a strategic key for ensuring a continuous

improvement of the logistic chain for inter-/intra terminal containers’ activities. According

to this approach, the adoption of a dry port can positively affect terminal containers’ performance,

but this requires resources and investments due to inter-terminal activities (e.g.

transport of the container from port to dry port and vice versa). The purpose of the study is

to develop a mathematical programming optimization model to support the decision making

in identifying the best containers’ handling strategy for intermodal facilities, according to

lean and green perspectives. Numerical experiments shown the effectiveness of the model in

identifying efficient material handling strategies under lean and green perspective.
