In the paper, the authors investigate the assumptions concerning checking calculations of a sliding bearing with a floating ring. The adiabatic model of the bearing is used for the calculations. Particular design stages are depicted in the form of a structural chart. The proper work conditions of the bearing are formulated and discussed. For the presented calculation example, the authors have determined the area of feasible solutions. In the conclusion, the authors formulate suggestions that might be useful for the designers who deal with these types of bearings.

The paper presents the method of determination of two-dimensional probability distribution Pf of crack initiation versus fatigue life N and the fatigue damage parameter : Pf − N − ϭ. The proposed distribution Pf uses parameters of the standard fatigue characteristics and allows calculating fatigue life of elements with heterogeneous stress fields at any probability level. The model was successfully verified on experimental test results.

Vibration intensity in mobile machines depends on the road roughness profile, ride velocity and dissipative properties of machine components. To reduce vibrations of a mobile machine with a boom equipment one of the available passive methods, utilizing a hydropnematic system for boom support to improve flexibility, the system incorporating throttling valves. Energy dissipation in a hydropneumatic system controls the decay of vibrations of the machine body and equipment. In the range of large velocities, passive methods prove inadequate. When ride velocity is to be increased, at the same time the required safety features and stabilization of the position of machine equipment are to be provided, further dynamic analyses are fully merited to identify processes taking place in the driving system. The final result should be the synthesis of the LQR control system to modulate the loading characteristics of the motor and to control the flow in a hydraulic boom-support system.

The paper describes a system that utilizes a microprocessor in controlling the clamping force of the band saw teeth against the cutting metals. This control system allows the blades to operate more efficiently, and prolongs the blade life. It also has an influence on the removal of chips from the blade and maintains a constant strength over the blade. The system can operate in the vertical and horizontal position. A highly advanced and powerful microcontroller PIC18F4455 is programmed to operate with feedback from 4 sensors. Additionally system requires the parametrical data on the shape, the profile and the kind of material to be cut, for adjustment the process of cutting. Feedback control is implemented via a collocated force actuator/rate sensors. The control theory is used to develop controllers, which achieve robust stability.

The author suggests that a mobile counterweight mechanism could be introduced to the excavator structure for coupling the hydraulic system with the excavating equipment. It is shown that the mobile counterweight mechanism reduces power demand, at the same time improving stability of the excavator.

In most cases, road machines emit both acoustic and vibration energy into the fluids or structures surrounding the machinery. This is dangerous for the construction strength of the machinery, and is harmful for human health. There are two general classes of tools used to assess and optimize acoustic performance of a vehicle: test based methods, and Computer-Aided Engineering based methods. The second one is discussed in this paper.

The solution of planetary gear with simplifying technology using the same geometry of the sun gear and the central gear is already known. The authors decided to change this concept i.e. to design a planetary gear with the same geometry of satellite wheels, which cooperate with a sun gear and a central gear with different number of teeth. The structural solution of elements of the gear is analyzed taking advantage of computational technique. Geometrical dimensions are described for the sake of teeth correction. Calculations and structural solutions of this kind of transmission are shown in the article.

In this paper, the authors present methods for designing of non-circular gears, including internal and external gears with spur or helical teeth. Technology related issues that determine tooth profile calculation algorithm are described. The results presented in this paper can become groundwork for further investigations of other particular properties of non-circular gears, similar to investigations of spur, helical and bevel gears. Examples of such properties include kinematics and application of special purpose gears or issues related to strength, dynamics, tribology, etc.
