Abstrakt

In this paper, the author derives theoretical formulae for calculating of squeezing forces. This report is the first one concerning the method of forming stepped shafts by longitudinal cold rolling. The formulae of the radial squeezing forces for the final passage of longitudinal rolling were calculated under the Huber hypothesis of plastic deformation and maximum shear stress.

Abstrakt

In this paper, the authors consider the influence of axial load on the stability of shells of revolution subjected to external pressure. Shells of different geometry are investigated with emphasis to barrelled shells. The variable quantities are length L and meridional radius of curvature R1 of a shell. The constant parameters are: thickness of the shell h, mass ms and reference radius r0. The material of shells is steel. Numerical calculations were performed in the ABAQUS system. All the shells considered in this paper were subjected to axial compression to determine the force corresponding to the loss of stability in such conditions. A part of this force is then used to preload shell before the buckling analysis in the conditions of external pressure is started. The buckling shapes for shells of different geometry are presented with and without the influence of axial load. The ability of controlling the buckling strength and shape is discussed.

Abstrakt

The article presents the results of experimental investigations of interactions between a deformable structure and a liquid. The investigations were performed on two prismatic tanks with elastically deformable top walls. During the investigations, different levels of tank filling with liquid were examined. The investigation of this phenomenon has direct reference to frequently recorded real events, such as collision of a tanker with another ship or a harbour berth, rapid braking of a road or rail tanker, etc. Recognition of this phenomenon is based on simultaneous measurements of the following parameters:

1. excited accelerations of the tank-liquid system,

2. elastic accelerations of top walls of the tank,

3. hydrodynamic pressures on the deformable top walls.

Abstrakt

A simple resistance-based method was used to study the epoxy-carbon composite material. Measurement of changes of the resistance between contacts, located on the composite specimens, allows detecting the damage process in quasi-static and fatigue tests. The method can be useful to determine the margin of safety of composite elements.

Abstrakt

The aim of the investigation presented in this work was to realise complex calculations of a new, combined water-steam system with peak-load hydrogen turbine to be applied in nuclear units with gas-cooled reactors. The system’s characteristic feature is the presence of two heat sources: a nuclear steam generator; and a hydrogen-oxygen combustion chamber. The main idea is to create a system capable to operate in two modes, with one or two heat sources, which leads to a significant output change. The investigation included also the overall efficiency of conversion of the nuclear energy, assumed the heat needed for producing hydrogen and oxygen comes from such a source. This part of the work included an analysis of the rationality of hydrogen production and utilisation. An additional aim of the research was to determine the optimal solution regarding the system performance and the capability of its technical realisation. The obtained results are promising: the system performance is very high, and its operating parameters are technically realisable in today’s conditions. In addition, it enables an emission-free, dispatchable electricity generation during the daytime demand peak.

Abstrakt

The paper presents the influence of different liquid cargo properties on discharge rate of hydraulic submerged cargo pumps on modern product and chemical tankers is presented in the paper. Main parts of submerged cargo pumps and hydraulic drive system are described. Some examples of technical solutions of the described systems installed on board of the newly building constructed ship m/t ‘Helix’ are presented. The formula of use application of flow and drive characteristics of cargo pumps is given. These characteristics were made derived for a basic cargo (fresh water) for the case of the service of a real cargo of different viscosity and density.
