Abstract

On the silver market one can notice a significant concentration of production. In 2002 ten biggest silver producers controlled more than 41% of world silver mining output. Mexican entity Industrias Peno/es was the biggest producer of this metal in 2002 and its contrubution to the global output was nearly 9%. The following places were occupied by BHP, KGHM, Grupo Mexico, Barrick Gold, Rio Tinto, Coeur, M.I.M., Buenaventura and Noranda. Despite of a huge concentration of production, one will be able to observe more consolidation processes in the silver industry in the future. It is a result of signifcant improvement of the fundamental conditions on the silver market and huge activity of investment funds, which have caused a price increase of white metal.

Abstract

The concentration of the output increase in the hard coal mining sector in last I O years is presented in this paper. The concentration of the extraction increase will be important when Poland will join the European Union. This increase favorably influences the mine economic efficiency, because by improving the work efficiency it limits wages - the main clement of unit costs in the hard coal mining sector. This process of increasing the concentration eliminates redundant length of exploitation faces and decreases the amount of roadway workings - it stops the depreciation unit cost and unit cost of materials, which arc another costs elements. Tables and figures show these facts in the paper.

Abstract

The article presents results of research on flotation process conditions improvement as a result of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) activation of flotation feed, technological water and flotation reagents. In the paper there have been used the results of work done by Agencja Gospodarki Odpadami Agos S.A. (Agency for Waste Management Agos S.A.) for Oddział Wzbogacania Rud (Division Concentrator Plants) KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. in Polkowice entitled Research defining possibilities of using magnetohydrodynamic activation (MHD) for improvement of ore .flotation and concentrate .filtration process parameters. There have been presented results of analysis of statistical significance ofdifferences between obtained results for comparative flotation and with magnetohydrodynamic activation.

Abstract

In this paper there is payed attention lo the necessity to know the uncertainty concerning the quality determination result statement characterizes a lot of particulate product. Unfortunately, the mathematical models for this and the indispensable informations about the statistical parameters of involving random variables, arc lacked. The published multidimensional and vectorial estimation method (Martyniak 1994b) enables to deduce these models and arrangement the research for obtaining these informations. First of all, the probability of ocurrencc that the true quality parameters of particulate product are findcd aut the utmost of the permissible tolerance for determination results, had to be expressed in shape of the mathematical model. Further, it was possible to derivate the formulas for the probable to manifest quantitavely the estimation uncertainty.

Abstract

The dislocation process of the points located on a surface m the area that was under the influence of underground mining was observed in a small time scale. It exhibited highly irregular behaviour (e.g. the observed points during the time of their vertical subsidence oscilated in a random way). In the paper is analysed vertical subsidence of three points. The results of the analysis show in an evident way that the nature of the observed irregularities is inherently random. Thus the observed phenomen proves that the underlying mechanism which rules the formation process ofthe post mining subsidence is ofthe purely random nature

Abstract

The Olkusz area is characterized by very complicated hydrogeological conditions. The Quaternary, Jurassic, Triassic and Palaeozic groundwater horizons represent porous or fracture-karstic types. The groundwater horizons are in permanent hydraulic contact. Natural hydrogeological conditions were highly disturbed, mostly by intensive mine drainage, which reached peak discharge of 350 m3/min and resulted in the formation of depression cone covering several hundreds of square kilometers. The closure of zinc and lead ore mining activity in the Olkusz region, scheduled to be completed before 2012, will give rise to both qualitative and quantitative, regional changes in the aquatic environment. Hence, a new concept is necessary of water supply in the area. The paper presents hydrogeological prognoses which consider the changes in aquatic environment of the Olkusz area during mine closure and the presumed water supply. The prognoses were based upon modelling of filtration area extending over 937 km2. The model considers two groundwater horizons: upper, which includes Quaternary-Jurassic strata and lower, which embraces Quaternary-Triassic-Devonian sediments, both separated by low-permeable, Rhoethian-Keuper beds.

Abstract

The equivalent to the Polish Dębowiec Formation arc coarse detritic sediments of lower Badenian in the territory of the Czech Republic. They fill deep depressions in the roof of Carboniferous formation, and considering the conditions of coal exploitation, form the most important hydrostructure. Statistical analysis of groundwater analyses allowed to ascertain hydrochemical environments marked: I and II-IV. In the environment I (the Bludovice depression) waters of the type HCO3-Na are the most common. The II-IV environment is represented exclusively by stagnant waters of the Cl-Na type. The most remarkable change of the waters type is observed in the narrow, central zone ofthe Bludowice depression. For groundwaters in depressions ofthe second order (connected to the Bludowice and Detmarovice depressions-of first order) two variability models of ions concentrations were formulated. The highest I concentrations are typical for waters in the Darkov depression (of the second order), and for the Region of Darkov.

Abstract

The paper presents characteristics ofmajor industrial sectors which are responsible for significant part of total CO2 emissions in the world. Information on these sectors is given along with that concerning distribution ofmajor stationary sources of emissions, shares of individual sectors of industry in total emission of CO2 and data on concentration of CO2 in streams of combustion gases from individual types of power plants and industrial gases. Results of economic evaluations of possibilities of elimination of CO2 emissions originating in the course of industrial processes arc discussed at the example of the Netherlands. The authors propose to analyse usability of sequestration by the underground storage method for two cases, that is for CO2 separated from emissions and for streams of pure CO2 gas. The first case concerns CO2 emissions from power and power and heat plants and some industrial processes, and the second - emissions from some industrial processes only. It is fairly possible that the first installations of sequestration by underground storage, especially those of the pilot type, will be localized in proximity ofcenters ofemission ofstream ofpure CO2 gas.
